The (Uber) Death Star Laser Tower Project - NOW OPEN SOURCE!!!

Re: The (Uber) Death Star Laser Tower Project - OPEN SOURCE COMING SOON!!!

THE (UBER) DEATH STAR LASER TOWER PROJECT IS GOING OPEN SOURCE!!!

The files will all be available soon for anyone that wants to build their own. Just gotta clean 'em up a bit. Stay tuned.

OPEN SOURCE FILES FOR THE (UBER) DEATH STAR LASER TOWER ARE NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE!!!

The files have been posted to Google Drive. They are being made available for anyone to use freely for non-commercial purposes. They may not be used to create parts, kits or finished models for sale. The repository is here:

I have been asked if these files can be used to 3D print an entire Tower. The answer is no, at least not in their current form. These files are for the model as I built it outlined in this thread using CNC routing, laser cutting, kit bashing, some 3D printing and good ol' fashioned scratch building. none of the 3D printing STLs are posted in the repository as I don't keep them after printing since a new STL file can always be exported out of the master 3D model. However, if desired, a competent 3D modeler should be able to convert the master model so that the entire Tower can be 3D printed, either at Studio Scale or smaller.

You're welcome!

Just a note, my Tower and Wasilli's are probably slightly different in dimensions, angles, etc. as they were both separately derived by photo interpretation it is unlikely that parts made by him would fit my tower and vice versa.

Thank you so much for these file Dave. I started building a tower several years ago but had to move so what I had built had to be put aside. Now Im motivated to get back to this new and improved version.

Is this the Mig kit we need for the laser barrels ?

That one will do. I believe that only the decals have changed between the boxings. I have a couple of versions and they look the same to me (haven't compared them directly though).

Woh. I need to grt out more often...
This is some bad ass sharing shizzle going on. Fantastic stuff Dave. I take my 'Make Modeling Great Again' hat off to you.

Re: The (Uber) Death Star Laser Tower Project

is there a file for the clear part

- - - Updated - - -

Thanks guys!

I laser cut some plexiglas to build up the box parts of the barrels. The white bits are pieces of Evergreen strip styrene glued to the inside corners to reinforce the joints and help keep everything square. (Laser cut edges tend to be ever so slightly not square and glued butt joints can go out of square unless something is used to help hold the joints at 90 degrees.)
