One-Stop 11' TOS Enterprise Reference Thread: NCC-1701, No Bloody A...

You can see the hole drilled into the front of the nacelle that originally powered the front bussard collectors. This was drilled away from camera so that the wiring couldn't be seen on screen. I sure would love to have ALL of the x-ray images from the ship!!!

I'd like to see the saucer guts too!

Are those the original motors? I am thinking so.

No, they are not the original motors.
The center shaft is offset from the motor body, and the motor isn't a face mount motor. It has screws going through a front plate to support the motor.
Which contradicts this motor.

This one is face mounted(from the front) and the motor's shaft in on the center line.
This is the closest match I could find(surplus).

The motors are just left of the light bulbs.
It's obvious they were replaced. Why could be anyone's guess, most likely they burned out.
At least I hope that was the case. Since we have seen other odd things with the restoration, Nothing would surprise me.

Is there any pics of the old control box?

The Udvar-Hazy center is having their open house Saturday, and the Enterprise is listed as an attraction. This may be a chance to see the model disassembled.

I think I see some new vintage pictures they have gotten hold of????!!!!

And finally a view inside the saucer. Yay! And eeewww yuck.

Now that it's officially announced as not me, I am VERY happy to announce I was in the running for this job for most of last year, and ultimately lost the bid to a team that I would be happy to lose to, every day of the week.
It was an honor to be asked to bid, an honor to get as far as I did (I was just told by Gary Kerr that in the end it was between myself and ILM!!), and I am eager to see the Enterprise restored, in all of her glory later this Summer.
I want a time machine, to go back to 1979 and tell younger-me that one day I would be considered alongside ILMers to restore the original Enterprise model for the Smithsonian. I cannot think of a cooler thing.

Wonderful time at Udvar-Hazy today! I'm absolutely exhausted right now, but I'll post my Enterprise porn shots tomorrow. They are really doing incredible work, and they're taking her back to August of 1967, when the very last modification was done to her for The Trouble with Tribbles, which was the inboard starboard nacelle detail for the opening shot.

Don't believe a word of what Paul OIsen says in his Enterprise book about this team. These guys are all-stars.

Jason, congrats on being in the running! The nomination is the award, as they say. :)

In other news, spent some more quality time with Greg Jein's mothership. I found the TIE fighter, the VW microbus, and the cemetery, but the mailbox and submarine continue to elude me. Bastards! :p
