Jessica Jones (Netflix Series)

Exactly what I look for in a show. Gripping and Powerful on every level. I could have said so much nicer had I just watched a bit more and got better hooked before I wrote. It fits in the beyond good category rather than just good and is more appropriately seen as something good enough to stand out in a sea of great television rather than something that easily stands out when there are a sea of bad. It plays with great Ideas that I’d loved to have played with and wish I came up with.

I love this show not only because it's well acted and directed, but for the sheer fact that I can get my wife to sit down and watch it with me. She hates Arrow, and doesn't care too much for the rest of the MCU, except GotG, but these Netflix "street level" shows grab her attention.

That aside, I love Luke and Jessica's interactions, and how their fighting is so drastically different from Matt Murdock's. The fact that Luke and Jessica are both brawlers, leaning more on their raw ability than actual fighting prowess is really interesting to me. It's funny seeing this girl who can throw a guy across a room one handed get grappled by a regular lady, almost as if she forgets what she's capable of, or maybe is scared of it. I've watched up to episode 4, but I'm excited now to keep going, and my interest in Luke's solo outing is definitely sparked, even though I am worried it will be a prequel but that might not be a bad thing necessarily.

Honestly...I cringed my way through the first half of the first episode before I had to turn it off and delete it from my HD. It felt like a soft-core porn without the porn. Non Merci.

There's a strong story if you can get through the first salacious minute the first show. The sex scenes did seem a little much at first but they aren't the core of the show and they're almost non-existent by the latter half of the series.

I enjoyed it a lot. I loved Jessica's vulnerability and emotional rawness. Tennant was SUUUUUUUUPER creepy and delightful as Kilgrave. Luke is awesome and I'm even more jazzed for the Luke Cage series now.

I have a few quibbles with it, but none of them were big enough to kill my enjoyment of the show.

JJ is a noticeable improvement over DD IMO. Unique story, more fleshed out and engaging characters, and a better villain. DD was well done as a superhero show but still felt formulaic, whereas JJ took a more unique post-hero and personal approach, and really hits hard with its themes of rape and invasion. Ritter and Colter both OWNED their roles, and I'm not even a fan of Ritter nor has Colter impressed me in his previous roles. I'm now really looking forward to Luke Cage's series next year. The series didn't suffer as much from annoying supporting characters as DD; yeah the neighbor twins were really effin annoying but they didn't get nearly as much screen time as the Foggy-Karen pairing. Simpson was also completely unnecessary as a secondary villain. And nothing against D'Onofrio's performance as Fisk, but Kilgrave was just a more imposing and threatening villain and Tennant really ups the creep factor in his performance. What bothered me from both shows however is the pacing issue, as both slowed to a crawl mid-season. Seems like 13 episodes is too much time for Marvel to tell its stories, they should either add more content or shorten the season for future shows.

Lastly, do the characters EVER buy new clothes? I'm talking about Jessica and Pam especially. I guess JJ's sorta poor so her minimal wardrobe makes sense, but did Pam buyer her clothes in bulk or something? It's literally the EXACT same dress with a different pattern in every scene, minus AKA 1000 Cuts.

I'm really enjoying this series. I didn't know much about Jessica Jones before watching, I knew she had super strength and is/was Luke Cage's wife, that's about it. One of my favorite touches in the show is the Film Noir trumpet music, it's a nice nod to the old P.I. shows and movies. The main reason I'm posting though, is because of Kilgrave's line in ep.8 to a couple police officers "We can go about our business, move along, move along." :lol

Just watched the first episode, not bad seems a bit faster then Daredevil which is nice but this is only episode one we will see what the rest are like before I say it's really good.

Also as I mentioned elsewhere....Jessica picks up a flippin' CAR in the first few minutes of the show I kinda can't see how she ain't gonna attract SHIELD's attention in some manner.

Watching it now.

It's definitely not the usual Marvel fare. Pretty raw.
KRitter wouldn't have been my first choice. She does trashy, snarky, NYC burnout chick pretty well. Can't really picture her suiting up with the Avengers though.

I'll definitely give it a chance.

Finally finished this. Unlike DD which I burned through in a weekend this lacked a lot of the elements that made that so compulsively watchable.
First off it was unfortunately predictable in places with relationships and powers that tied people together that could be seen coming quite a way away in the overall story. That made it feel very long at times and that lack of variation within the series stories was surprising given its supposed to be a detective agency after all. Making the entire arc was about Killgrave became repetitive and boring and his super stalker habits although creepy , seemed uninspired . For a guy who can control people he seemed to have very little imagination about how he did it and as a bad guy, unlike Fisk, his origin and character were predictably written. And the object of his obsession ???? And what happened to finger prints and DNA evidence. I kept asking myself ,everytime they went after him why are there no snipers around , just shot him in the leg. Or use ear plugs. Gags are good at particular times. Just sneak up to him whilst his back is turned. It doesn't help that there have been shows like "Alphas" that could deal with a power like this in a single episode. And no airborne virus in the world travels as fast as his does. What if the winds blowing towards him?
And the next biggest issue was it was just filled with unlikeable characters. With the exception of Luke Cage, I couldn't find anything much to stay interested about in many of them, in fact I actively ended up disliking more than was healthy for a series. I couldn't care enough to want to spend anytime with them, in fact quite the opposite. Which is why it took me this long to finish the series I guess.
Jessica Jones herself? This interpretation was a fair bit away from what I was expecting and its fair to say she was not the Jones I was looking or hoping for. And that's unfortunate.
I felt overall it was mostly a missed opportunity, far to standardized and plodding to be considered great TV by todays high standards. Solid fair for winter viewing and nothing better is on.
Compare how much interest and praise this thread has attracted and then balance that against DareDevil.
No contest really.

I liked it,....not as much as DareDevil,...but much more than Agents of SHIELD,.....it had that 'episode of the week' feeling about it, unlike DD which was like a huge movie

I really enjoyed it. On par with DD in my case.
I can't help but agree with the dozens of ways one could take out Killgrave but, it's a show....I dug it.
Also really loved the casting over all.
That said, never read this comic and have no idea who she is outside of the Netflix show.

You are paranoid, Jessica!
Everyone keeps saying that, it must be a conspiracy;)

Great show, dark. Only on Ep 4 so I did not read previous comments.

I'm about 7 episodes into this so far. I will admit it took me a couple of episodes to really get into it, but I am for sure hooked on it now. It is definitely in a different vein than Daredevil, but that's okay, I like a little variety. I went into this one blind as I had no clue who she was or what she was about.

Really enjoying it. I love Kilgrave!!

Jessica Jones (Netflix Series) - Season 2

The first season would be tough to top. But this does look promising.
