Re: Fallout 3: 3D Printed Power Armor Helmets
Alrighty!
Hey guys. Figured it was long overdue for an update here, so I wanted to post up some of the progress I've been making.
I'm finally starting to get back in gear with the PA helmets. I've actually been working a great deal lately, just haven't been posting as much. For a good several months, I was actually not working on anything at all. We'll just cut a long story short and say that 'real life' popped up and grabbed my attention for a bit. No worries or nothing dramatic, but enough to take a rather long break.
Well, break time's over. Time to get things moving. Here's what I've got so far:
The FO3 T-51b reprint is moving along well. Still quite a bit of work and detailing, but the main 'rough in' has been done. A good number of the smaller greebs have already long been casted, and sit in a box awaiting the main shell to be finished. I have a few greebs to print and master, mostly small like the side rivets.
The FO3 T-45d helmets has been started as well, although still quite a ways off until I'm even ready to spray a first coat of primer. Nevertheless, you gotta start somewhere. None of the greebs have been printed for this one yet, and will be some time until I do. For now, she waits.
The FO3 Enclave Power Armor helmet (sometimes referred to by fans as APA Mk 2 or X-02) has been mostly printed out. I need to print the collar part at the bottom, and the smaller elements. The main portion sits sealed and waiting, the back door portion has been sanded down and is ready for primer and spot check, as well as a minor bit of fitting. It'll be some time until I get to really digging into this one.
Pretty much the same deal with the Hellfire helmet, it sits sealed in XTC resin and awaits it's day. Will likely be saved for last in terms of work order, mostly because the helmet will only ever be able to serve as a display piece. Due to it's original design by Bethesda, the helmet is not wearable as there is a big rib along the inside that prevents my head from passing. Even if the rib wasn't there, the overall size and dimensions as compared to all the other helmets would make for an uncomfortably tight fit.
While not a Fallout 3 helmet, I'll be updating the progress on my FO4 T-51 helmet here for now. The helmet shell is very close to being finished, with the spot check phase going very well. Also been cleaning up the sharp details. This is the helmet I've pretty much been putting all my time into the past week, working daily to get it ready for casting. A few of the little parts have been printed, and were printed on my SLA printed in fine detail. I also printed the rear hose tubes yesterday, and will be sealing those up and sanding them out soon. I'm hoping to be casting this puppy up by mid autumn.
And if all that wasn't enough, another project I've put some time into as summer was ending. Will be doing all four versions. Will post a separate thread for them in the near future.
Cheers!
