We're a little further along with the Legends of Zelda Hylian Shield, lots of sanding and priming.

Last night we prepped for final paint by hitting the shield with several coats of high gloss purple.

Started masking and painting. Hit the Tri-Force with gold, then masked it off and painted the entire shield with metallic paint.

Masking off the metallic pieces in prep for red paint

Red applied

About an hour's worth of masking to cover the bird

and a final coat of metallic in preparation for laying down blue

We're very pleased with how the shield came out. Did some light weathering around the metals and rubbed in some browns and blacks on the blue background.

This turned out great. What makes it even better is it was a father daughter project. Definetly a great bonding experience that she'll always remember. Great job by both of you.

Revisiting an old project. I built this Enterprise as a master to create resin copies and I decided it was time to clean it up, stain it and display it. It's still a work in progress, but the staining is coming along nicely.

I haven't tried a Pepakura build before but have been wanting to give it a go for awhile.

I used Sharkead7854's foam unfold of JFCustom's 3D model (outstanding work by both).

Helmet file printed

Adhered to the foam

Assembled and sanded

The build is far from perfect -I was very heavy handed with the hot glue, didn't fully understand where the folds and joins were supposed to be, and didn't have reference photos handy while I did the assembly. But, as a proof-of-concept I'm pleased with how it came out.

I did some minor adjustments, hit it with paint, and weathered the heck out of it (weathering covers a variety of sins IMHO). Here's the final version:

It's been about a week and the helmet has received a lot of loving' -additional fiberglass where the helmet got weak from sanding, lots of Bondo, sanding, priming and repeat.
