Darth Vader (Rubies Lid Mod, Scratch build)

Re: Vader (Rubies Lid Mod, Scratch build)

sharing some photos of a Fan Screening of TFA, costume not completely accurate yet, but enough to have been noticed by the local 501st, have been invited to join after upgrading parts according to their specifications ( specifically the undersuit and gloves)...woohoo

Re: Vader (Rubies Lid Mod, Scratch build)

Hello all, would anyone here ( shout out to Filipinos on board) know who can make an accurate ROTJ leather undersuit and gloves locally ( Manila based would be great), the cost of shipping plus tax from abroad just seems hard to justify. thanks

Re: Vader (Rubies Lid Mod, Scratch build)

Great job man! It looks really good. I'm from the Philippines too (living in Alabang as well) and wan't to start working on scratch building a Vader helmet. I'd love to get your inputs.

Re: Vader (Rubies Lid Mod, Scratch build)

cool Pare! pm me your location here in Alabang. ( im here in AAV) what version of Vader are you going for? helmet only or whole costume? post a wip thread so lots of guys here can give their comments and suggestion. good luck on your build.

lots and lots more room for improvement till it becomes 501st acceptable....but sloooooowly moving towards that endgoal...;)

Hi all, even though my Vader is not (yet) up to 501st standards, I was allowed by the local garrison to join them for a Charity Hospital Troop to visit sick kids ( the group's approved Vaders were indisposed) ( the kids' wont be able to distinguish how inaccurate my suit still is anyway...hahaha), it is such a heart warming experience to see the kids/patients' ( and the patients' relatives hehe) eyes light up when we show ourselves ( even for a short while, it seems they forget the pain and sadness they are obviously enduring)..this has given me more motivation to get my Vader up to standards so i can join in more events like this ( hats off to the 501st guys for these kinds of charity activities). here are some photos of the troop. on a side note...i think i have to repaint my armor again, the last repaint i did, i tried to go for a lighter Gun Metal / Silver finish.... not too happy with how it shows up in photos...looks too Silvery...will go with the darker tone again for better ROTJ look. :)

some minor nitpicks but otherwise looks awesome..leather is nice and soft and fit is perfect. can finally say goodbye to the Rubies Gloves iv'e been using...hahaha...gonna have to distress/weather it a bit to get rid of the "brand spankin' new look" , will be using this till i decide to have another pair made to correct the minor inaccuracies..;)

some more upgrades done...

rocker switches, cardboard then waterstop instead of bondo...curing...before sanding...

sanded the rocker switch and hit with first coat of gloss...will wet sand with 1200 grit when fully dried and paint with next coat...

pieces partly prepped and arranged to see how it will look finished. lots more refinement to be done before final assembly, hope when my fettronics lights arrive this will be ready. ;)

painting the new chestbox and beltboxes not going too well, my fault really for rushing to finish for Halloween....FAIL...drips, streaks,bubbles...base preparation is key...really bad move to rush it.....so will have to putty and sand, and sand, and sand again then primer..and sand some more.....frustration set in so i put it aside for a while...while i started making a budget Jack Sparrow build for an office affair....ahhhrrr mateys...yo ho!, but will definitely go back at it to make it ready for Rogue One premier!

@alexmiller1 - have finished the chestbox, was more patient with the next repaint i did ( hehe), installed the fettronics light i got and it turned out a whole lot better than the original chestbox i made before. also installed new fenixprops tusks, will post updated pics soon, the beltboxes are next, have done some Rogue 1 premier troops with the local 501st as a guest/recruit ( costume not yet approved, pending more refinements).;)
