Various OT lightsaber WannaWanga parts (new ALU MPP shroud)

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update page 8: luke ROTJ v2 lever available)

Nice collection to be sure!
Wondering if there's been a good tutorial yet on the V2 build that somebody could point me to?

PoopaPapaPalps Thank you for showing these fine sabers here. They look awesome! I love the way you weathered the V2 and the Vader is excellent. I wouldn't worry much about that endcap, because at least this one has the black screw hole in it.

Indeed ... I agree with Roy regarding the endcap ... it's a minor detail ... as for the bubbles ... have you seen the beat up frosted bubblestrip on the real prop ... not even mentioning the wrinkle effect gone completely from the shroud?

So I'd say ... your grandioso OT lightsaber collection is amazing! :)

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update page 8: luke ROTJ v2 lever available)

I got some grips from Roy today, I basically need to upgrade the grips on all my OT sabers but I'm starting with my Vader sabers

my ANH Parks MPP currently only has 6 grips & my MR (force fx) ESB grips were sticky so I took them off to clean & stupidly melted them with acetone

before I try to replace them I wanted to ask if people notch the underside of their Vader grips like on the MR's so they sit straight over the endcap?

I used padded tape on my parks originally (which no doubt will be a pain to remove)

thanks

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update page 8: luke ROTJ v2 lever available)

I've got a couple questions about grips.

What is the angle that the grips are cut to on the Luke ANH saber?

What is the length of the grips for ESB vader saber.

I asked the same question for my build and was told not to notch them because they weren't notched on the actual prop.

It's your call... the notched look *is* a bit cleaner (I have the MR ANH Vader), but if you're going for 'accuracy' more than 'style', then no notches...

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update page 8: luke ROTJ v2 lever available)

I plan on notching because I like the cleaner look. Its such a minor detail that, for me, doesn't wreck the realism. But that's my opinion and opinions are like buttholes...everybody's got one.

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update October: MPP shrouds available)

For those who didn't follow my MPP shroud thread: I now have plenty of MPP shrouds replicas available:

mpp_shroud_05.jpg

They can be ordered here: http://wannawanga.com/products/mpp-shroud/

AND I've made a new blueprint drawing of Vader's ESB saber.
It is very accurately based on the images of the real prop (you know, the pictures taken in Casino / Movie Museum) by doing some 3D perspective matching.

You can also check it here at WannaWanga: http://wannawanga.com/goodies/
If anybody wants to print it out in scale 1:1 it has an A2 paper size.

Enjoy, I hope you like it!

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update October: MPP shrouds available)

I have a question in regards to the difference between Vader's ANH and ESB saber. Does the clamp sit further toward the shroud in ANH compared to the ESB hilt? It looks to me that the ESB clamp is positioned further down towards the end cap. Only slightly, but I think I can still notice it. Is this true? Just wanting to make sure before I modify my ESB flash.

Cheers!

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update October: MPP shrouds available)

The T-tracks on the ANH lightsaber are also much shorter than ESB ... so that and maybe a slight repositioning of the clamp between ANH and ESB is quite possible ... a major difference is the angle of the clamp in ANH ... it does not line up straight as in Roy's blueprint seen on the top right ... sorry I just don't know the exact angle :wacko

According to Roy's Blueprints the angle in Luke's ANH is 30
and the length of Vader ESB T-tracks is 4.10" or 104 mm

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update October: MPP shrouds available)

:thumbsup

We need someone to take measurements of the new V2 so Roy could create another blueprint and hopefully another rendering :D
The new Vader renderings are superbe.

I have it here, of course! I even got Dan's 3D files! :rolleyes
So that and OB1 ANH are next on the list.

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update October: MPP shrouds available)

My shroud, grips, bubble strip, and belt clip all arrived! I am so stoked. I love the wrinkle paint on the shroud. It has a velvety look to it that is quite cool. I put the bubble strip in my Roman Obi saber; it really kicks things up a notch :cool. I will definitely be picking up more of those in the future.

I'm getting ready to trim up the t track, and I'm wondering what's the best way to go about making the 30 degree bevels on the ends (for the ANH look). I know that I've seen advice on how to do this, but I can't seem to find the info now that I need it :wacko. Seriously, I used the forum search and Google to no avail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Various OT lightsaber parts (update October: MPP shrouds available)

Hey MCM, good to hear that you're pleased with the parts! I'm sure there's many ways to cut the corners, but you can use a box cutter, a file and sandpaper. It's just pieces of plastic :D
