Just wanted to mention that I bought some resin parts from kokkari and the castings are very crisp and sharp. I love em :thumbsup

I just had a thought. Since the new movie is coming out at Christmas and we know they will be releasing a millenium falcon toy....do we think that this may be the prototype for it?

Overall, it was a pretty pointless toy. But could it be developed so that 3 3/4" figures could fit inside?

The only way to make the falcon fit the 3 3/4" (1:18 scale) figures would be to make it in a larger scale (IE: at 1:18 scale). The Hasbro falcon is about 1:50 scale, so to make it compatible you would have to make it quite a bit larger, around 6 feet long!

The only other option is do what they did with the earlier Hasbro falcon and make the cockpit WAY over sized so that it kinda can fit the figures, but then you have messed up the proportions of the ship and it just looks like a toy for kids...

...so, no I don't think you will ever see a falcon that actually fits the standard star wars 3 3/4" figures.

I found the sticker template to be a little under sized. When I cut them out I just included a .5 mm boarder as I cut them out. I test fit them, then traced them onto the styrene before cutting them out again. They're fairly accurate, but found in order to be completely accurate, I had to make 2 pieces out of their template of one piece on occasion. I did this on about 5 pieces. I counted a total of 36-38 on top. The other pain in the butt is cutting all the little notches out, not to mention adding the little square greeblies that are all over the Falcon hull. The good news, is I think I only count 13 that need to be cut out for the bottom. Here's what I mean about cutting some pieces into two.

These were originally 1 piece according to the stickers, but are actually 2 on the real Falcon.

Kokkari, what did you use to cut out the little notches? did you make a template out of something? just free hand the whole thing?

Nothing complicated. I had a pattern where I traced it onto the styrene pieces then I cut them out with an exacto knife. I then used a file to clean them up.

MF and the 3.75" figures -

They tooled up a whole new big toy figure-size Falcon from scratch a few years ago. They probably won't do it again any time soon. They will probably just slap a different radar dish onto that toy and re-release it as an Ep#7 version.

If you wanna get technical, the scale-accurate size for the 3.75" figures (which are around 1:19 scale) is almost exactly the size of the original "5-footer" ILM filming miniature of the ship. (That's the scale of the interior movie sets. The physical mockups of the exterior were undersized.)

It's just a weird coincidence that the ILM model matches the action figures so well.

It's also why we will never see an action figure toy version of the ship in the "correct" size - it would be just too darn big & expensive. Not sellable.

they did! it was a limited edition " Extraordinaire ", 6 feet long, saw some images posted of it, crazy

Actually NO... that was just the 6 foot promo Falcon they made for Toys-R-Us promotion when Ep1 (or was it the Special Ed, can't remember) came out... I think each one is numbered and they only made like 5000 of them. It was just a fiberglass shell and had some plain flashing LEDs randomly placed on it. It wasn't accurate by any means! Althou, side note... Billy Dee Williams played a round of Go Fish with the Employees at The Stash for a 6 foot Falcon for his grand kid! :) He won the Falcon of course in the card game... again!

I remember seeing that huge version and I was embarrassed for how bad it looked!

I have to respectfully disagree. I had one and to this day it was my favorite piece and one I hope to have again.

You can see it in my old collection thread link in my signature below.

It's just a big version of my beloved Kenner Falcon that I grew up with and I just loved it. I was always gonna give it a better paint job but I just loved it. Even more than,...yes I am going to say it,..my MR Falcon. The MR Falcon was a very close second.

It was just a big store display but the minute I saw it I wanted one but never thought I would get one. So the day I got it was a great day. A day I hope to duplicate.

I respect that. To each his own. I still have my original Kenner Falcon from when I was kid from the 70s. BTW love your collection thread!

:cry:cry I miss her. I know it sounds dumb but every time I walked into my office even if I had a terrible day or the wife really ticked me off, I would see this and smile. Every time.

Thanks but 98% of it has been sold. It's how I have kept the family in good shape getting only part time substitute work for the last two years. I am hoping to re-build.

Do you remember what your number was on your 6 foot falcon? I had a chance to pick up one a few years back but they wanted way too much for it and I couldn't figure out I would get it home in my Ford Escort at the time. I think the number on that one was like 153 if I'm not mistaken. He wanted 2 grand and I wasn't gonna give him that much at the time... I offered him $100... we parted ways!

They usually go for $2,000 to $2,500 but I have seen a number go for a lot less. Mine sold for $2,500 but I think otheres were not willing to ship to Thailand. I will have another one someday.

Here ya go on the number:

Here it was being boxed up for it's trip to Thailand:

Once the box was done I put on large door handles and rope handles so it could be carried.

Thanks and good idea. I have been blessed with two incredible kids and an amazing wife which is why I sold my collection to take care of them.

I never would have if they were not so awesome :lol

Actually my wife and kids are always telling me how much they appreciate it and my kids always ask about how I am doing without my props and want to buy me props.

I hope to re-build and get it all back in some form. Some of the pieces will be even better as prop masters here continue to turn out even better props.

Thanks again

Tom

Getting back on topic I have started on my Hasbro and it's going really well. Engine vents and gunner windows are cut out along with legs and all side detail parts by Tony and crew are on. Started on cutting the molded piping away. That is not easy.

Pics soon.

What route did you go, jameth - glue to existing walls or chop those away and replace with the new sidewalls? I'm totally stalling starting that bit on mine, as I think the existing walls need to go, but the idea of taking them all out is, frankly, scaring the poop out of me. Don't want to commit until someone goes first both ways :)

I just glued them to the top half of the existing walls so it can still be taken apart for lights, structure, etc. I'm very happy with it.

I'll post pics soon so you can see.
