Force FX Lightsaber w/Removable Blade Modification Question

Greetings everyone!

I am in the process of designing a custom lightsaber that will need a detachable blade and sound effects. My second thought, after seeing how much those two items are on the custom market, was to take apart a Force FX Lightsaber w/Removable Blade and use its components for this purpose. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried this before and succeeded/failed?

If I do go through with this plan, postings of progress will follow!

I forgot to mention that I have watched and read through various disassembly instructions on the web but wanted to check with the experts here before dropping $130 on one and tearing it apart and finding out it would have been better to go with purpose built pieces meant for custom sabers.
