Fear The Walking Dead (spin off series)

While I've enjoyed and found the actions and behavior of the characters overall understandable and excusable I had to really question the actions of Madison, I thought that the whole cutting the fence and sneaking out really dumb and beyond belief, that's just not something normal people do, esp. adults. If it was one of the kids who did it I think I would have found it more believable, teenagers are generally more impulsive and more prone to doing stupid things than adults, particularly something as stupid as sneaking out of a quarantine zone.

The other thing that annoyed me about this episode was the portrayal of the military, can we move away from the military as evil trope for once? How long is it going to take for these idiot Hollywood screenwriters to finally realize that members of the US military are not just mindless drones nor are do they have evil tendencies, or prone to megalomaniacalism. What's worse is that these guys are National Guardsmen, people who live and work in and around LA, there's no way that any National Guardsmen are going to act the way they are towards people who could potentially be their neighbors, friends, or even family, not the whole lot of them at least. I would have written them as being more sympathetic to the people in this community they're guarding while at the same time frustrated when they're not cooperating with them because they're just trying to do the best they can and follow the orders given them.

I didn't get this scene at all. Did she ever make it to the house with the flashing light? I assume that's where she was trying to get to. As soon as the patrol passed, did she give up just go back home?

And you leave a secured location to follow your crackhead son to break into a neighbors house to steal a gun, but you don't pick up a pistol that's just laying there in the street?

That whole scene was pretty vague, we only got a bit of an idea of what she saw and no idea of what she accomplished, we don't even know if she grabbed the gun. My suspicion is that she did grab the gun, we're just not shown that so they can surprise us with it down the road, to me it smacks of one of those predictable unpredictable moments, ie they want us to think that she just left the gun and surprise later when she pulls it out "surprising" us with the gun that they all thought we didn't know she grabbed.

As for the house with the flashing light, I don't she made it that far. It was pretty far away, at least a good mile, probably more, and she probably got spooked by the patrol. You also have to figure that neither she, nor anyone else who's seen the flashing light, know exactly where that house is. With nothing more than a compass direction to head in it would be hard to find some random house in the middle of the LA urban sprawl. If she at least knew the street it was on she might be able to find her way but even that would be kind of difficult unless it was in a part of town you happen to be very familiar with or had a map handy to figure out where the street is.

I agree that the military was portrayed in the typical Hollywood mindset as either being the bad guys or incompetent. I could see a group of U.S. soldiers going rogue and acting like a-holes around the time of the Walking Dead, but not immediately. Even then I would think most of the surviving military would still be trying to help people.

I also thought it was odd that when the mom (no clue what her name is...) went outside the fence that there weren't any walkers around. They either did that because of the budget or we're supposed to assume the military patrols took them out.

Here's the thing, it's been so QUIET as far as we can tell around their area. Why aren't they hearing near constant gun fire in the distance? It seems like with the dense populations of California they should be hearing more gunfire as the NG take out walkers/people. From what I could tell, the only time they heard gunshots in that episode is at the end when the gunshots occurred in the building with the flashing light.

I just watched last nights episode and like others have said, besides what any characters name is, the mom cutting the gate and leaving?

Also read that someone may not be able to locate a house. Its just off a visible hill landmark, very easy to locate. Problem is, where we see LA in the distance puts these people around Watts. If not then by some odd movement of the hillsides, Glendale. Its likely safe to say they are aiming to have them in the Silverlake area but again the geographics dont work even in a fictional LA. But, in all fairness, in Heat when DeNiro went to waste the guy at the LAX Hilton Hotel, he got on the 405 South instead of the 405 North or just ride out the 105 and make a right on Aviation. For the uber nerds, the same tunnel 105 west /405 south interchange tunnel was in the Avengers.

It appears there was a shoot out in blinky light house. Or some teen girls were just taking selfies with the lights out. Maybe sexting in the apocalypse? Its supposed to be LA so...

The National Guard, again others have mentioned, lol.

Im guessing the doctor lady took the Latino woman and the girly boy because they had introduced drugs into their system. Wonder if they are going to play on a possible drug origin story and the blue meth will make a come back.

Still hoping Shane comes back and blasts everyone, or as Gary Oldman said in the Professional "E V E R Y O N E".

Shane and Woody Harrelson, both with their heads shaved need to pull up in a stolen army truck with a 50 cal on top and clean house... Then they need to commandeer a Beverly Hills mansion with a harem full of hot porn stars, machine guns, and cocaine and proclaim themselves supreme emperors of LA...

WTF happened in the last episode?? Literally NOTHING!! It was so boring.

It was poor storytelling (telling, not showing), but we established:
1) The government is involved. NG presence is evidence of this. Where is the Army though? Can they not deploy on US soil? Are they off fighting the walkers?
2) Humanity is losing already. NG states they are gearing up for the big push to take back the city.
3) There is a conspiracy going on. They are taking away at risk people; drug addicts, mentally unstable, sick & dying, injured, etc.
4) We jumped forward a bit. It was 9 days after the lights went out.
5) It's widespread. Multiple safe zones established around the area.
6) The grid is at least partially working. They get power for a few hours a day. Odd that there are no phones or radio communications.

Basically setup a lot of questions for me...

Still liking the show for what it's worth.

The NG is the Army. I am a 10 year vet of the Army NG. The difference between the branches are:

Active Army (full time)- Federally paid, will not be activated state side unless a DIRE catastrophy (invaded by another country)
Army Reserves (part time)- Federally paid, will not be activated state side unless a DIRE catastrophy (invaded by another country)
Army National Guard (part time)- State paid, state controlled (still Army and can be federally activated, IE Iraq and Afghanistan, but NG gets activated stateside for local and national emergencies/ disasters.

The answer to your question would, posse comitatus. Then again, it has been amended to allow the military to be used to help restore order in the case of a natural disaster, which a zombie apocalypse might qualify as.

I would pay GOOD MONEY to see that! :lol

Not sure it's a conspiracy but it's for sure a preemptive triage to relocate or destroy those who would be easy prey for the zombies. Sadly that includes alot of folks who are in no condition to fight for themselves. Even a zombie in a nursing home could cause damage as the virus might make them mobile again. The power makes sense: you give enough power for survivors to get by without taxing the system or people wasting it on stuff and it really isn't that hard for them to take down the phone grid. They have jammers that can block cell phones and all you have to do is tell the phone company to shut down their service as part of national security. The internet wouldn't be hard to do either unless people have it via satellite.

Oh it gets much better. Turns out our two heroes are step brothers. At the end of season one there is a knock on the door... The boys answer, it's their pissed off alcoholic dad and senile grandpa from back home. Dad is none other than Billy Bob Thornton (think Sling Blade meets Bad Santa), senile Grandpa is Irving (Bad Grandpa) in his tighty whities, nut sack to his knees... Billy Bob punches both boys for leaving them behind, Irving takes off running after a naked chick. The chaos ensues.

Stop watching then.

But the fact is, there would be a lot of people behaving exactly like that. When the world is falling apart, they're going to be entirely in for protecting themselves and their own. It's almost like none of you have even watched "The Walking Dead" before or you'd have noticed that's a reoccurring theme. We also had NG who were trying to go AWOL, some who bugged out right after a bad building clear, some who are trying to treat people when they can, but when they can't putting them down to be sure they aren't making a bad situation worse, and some who are just trying to help civilians the best the can. And yet, it was only the Guatemalan refugee who was torturing another human being.

So quit your whining.

You know, your zombie in a nursing home reference reminds me of two things: the episode with the Governor in Season 3 (where he had to go get the air tank) and Cockneys vs. Zombies. XD

The NG might have stuck around a lot longer than they would in real life if things got this bad, a person's first instinct is to protect themselves and their loved ones so getting the hell out of dodge to be with your family would probably override all else no matter how badly you want to help others. Especially if things are starting to look like there's no winning and sadly putting down people would be the kindest thing you could do for everyone.
