This thread is for helmets/mask from the Marvel Movies like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Starloard, etc.

I'm currently working on Starlord's helmet from Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America's helmet from The First Avenger and wanted to share my progress so far.
I hope you like it, feedback, tips or pictures of your own work are welcome :)

First I made cardboard models from the foam pdo.files covered them in spackle and sanded them down to make them as smooth as possible.
I hotglued clothesline to edges of the helmet to make them smoother and more resistant.
A few more hours filling and sanding and i should be able to move on to paintig it :)

Update #1:
IMG_20140814_231814.jpgIMG_20140814_231807.jpg

Sanded it down a bit more, feels pretty smooth and round now.
I decided to go with more of a hardened leather look for the shell and made the lines on the top seam more like a rough seam than a weld.

Update #2:
IMG_20140815_145306.jpgIMG_20140815_145316.jpgIMG_20140815_145341.jpgIMG_20140815_145247.jpg

Applied one final coat of spackle to make the dome as even as possible and added the missing seam on the left.
The right seam looks a bit uneven now so I'll probably have to straight out the part over the eye a bit more to make it look more symmetric.
It really looks like it has some weight to it but it is actually quite light but sturdy. Only around the nose there are some little cracks.

I'm still undecided if I should paint the "A" on like in the movies or make it stand out like on this one

And finally here's my Starlord helmet:

It' s still missing a few pieces and the gap between the eyes needs to be closed but i'll probably finish the paint job on my Captain America mask first before I'll get back to it.

I got the lenses from some cheap sunglasses I saw in a store last week and bought without knowing if they would fit, but the color looks pretty cool and they even have the right size to fit inside the eyes.

Update #3:
First I applied two layers of white primer, cut the "A" from ducttape put it in place and finally applied three more layers of blue color over the whole thing.

I also started working on the chin straps. I went with a light brown for the leather since the blue I used on the helmet is also a bit brighter than the original color.

That's it for now, but I'll be back soon with some pics of the finished strap.

Update #4:

Added the wings, attached the chin-strap to the helmet and padded the back with rubber foam for a tighter fit.

I'll still have to make some minor adjustments to the chin-strap and finish the painting on the wings, but overall it turned out pretty nice so far.

looks awesome, is that real leather for the straps?

How did you sew it?

Re: All Marvel Cinematic Universe helmets/mask WIP:Captain America/Starlord - PIC HE

Thank you, yes it's real leather (I think it's cow but I'm not sure, a friend gave it to me :) )

First I cut the pieces from the sheet rounded the edges with a cutter and hot-glued them together.
Then I used an awl to make the holes for the thread and sewed through them.
It's actually quite easy this way and since there is glue underneath the seams, they are mostly decorative so you can use any kind of thread you like.
I used colored wool which would never keep the strips together on its own.

Hope this helps :)

My question is how sturdy and durable is the helmet? I dress for charity events and kids (and the general public for that matter) can be very handsy or want to see if it is "real." I would like to make a helmet, but it would have to be fairly tough when done.
