Haystack Hair's MPC Falcon Upgrade Kit Thread

First docking ring casts are out, damn pleased. I also finished the radar mould but i'm having a dog of a time getting it to actually cast properly. I think my vents are in the wrong place and they're just letting too much excess resin out and the part can't cast properly

It's funny how the lense distortion changes the shape of things.....in person, the ring is noticeably conical...in photos it looks almost parallel

Version 2 photo etch kit is complete and has only just been sent off to the manufacturer for processing and a quote.

The kit is very specifically for the MPC kit and only has enough baffles for the 5 footer version; I'll only be offering them as part of the full upgrade kit but I'll keep you guys posted!!

I'm still holding back on even looking at my falcon kit until I can get my hands on one of your kits. Exelent work dude.

Thanks buddio!! I'm really hoping to get this all released and boxed with instructions and everything by mid January....I have to save an entire kit back for myself just for demonstration in the instructions....ironic that I'll have to take it all off again because I want to adjust the proportions!!

It'll be good to see this come together HH, the MPC will be a beauty

Just looking back on the docking rings, The yellow/orange colour would be great for a alternative YT

Are you going to do anything for the rear deck other than the vents?

I'll put in some detail sheets including the 1/144 panzer decks, and naturally the grilles and fans but beyond that, there isn't a whole lot I can actually do without it being wildly impractical

True! And would fit nicely with the SW feel....imagine the yellow all chipped and weathered, that would be sweet

First few casts out the radar mould....I'm still getting the hang of this two part mould thing. The bubbles are trapped in between the layers, so all of the parts are in fact completely usable, just as they are right now, you can see the bubbles. Once it's painted it's fine

To compensate for the new 12mm sidewall height, I have to create new maintenance wells. I vacuum formed over some slices of 25mm dowelling and. I made 14 of them, 6 for the engine vents and 8 for the mandibles as they are essentially the same size

I can't remember if I've already posted the box art but here is a lil sneaky peak.
I have a very nice selection of boxes for the kits, they open 'pizza style' which was exactly what I was hoping for. I am working on this kit as an entire experience not just "bam here's your kit"

I'm also spending this evening sketching out instruction designs, I'm not sure whether to go along the lines of isometric or orthographic layouts.

I want this kit to be as professional and artistic as possible. Modelling is a hobby very much inhabited by a.......highly specific demographic

It is such an enjoyable experience that I would love, through social media and just passion in itself, to have it reintroduced as an exciting and fresh field. It's becoming remarkably stagnant I feel......there is a set 'style' and 'this is how we do it' within the culture and manufacturers.

Big things have small beginnings I guess hehe :cheers
