Blade Runner SUSHI BAR + SLICE OF LIFE making of

WOW… awesome to see you've finally managed to get them etchings sorted :) I remember your original posts from years ago relating to these. So happy to seem them in the flesh so to speak. Love the framed one idea too. Sweet.

Great to see some updates again, loving them.

*cough cough* Kickstarter perk *cough cough*

YO!
I'm extremely happy to announce that one little project of mine that was in the making for a loooooong time is finally done - The "Blade Runner Blimp Antenna Etch" !!!

So basically it's a replica of the etchings they made for Blade Runner, and to get it made I had to draw the whole thing in Illustrator. naturally, I wanted to make it as accurate as I could but unfortunately there aren't any big resolution photos of the originals on the net. My attempts to contact several people who might have the originals failed so I had to draw it according to just a couple of photos like this:

After I drew the artwork It was manufactured by a company that specializes in these kinds of things. Each sheet is 30x16cm, and made from 0.3mm brass. It was rather pricey, but in my opinion they did one helluva job. Just look at that detail!!!

ITS AMAZING! And after you bend the individual parts to give them some dimensionality they really start looking like real antennas.

I can't wait to glue them to the buildings! They are going to give so much detail to the overall scale of the city.

But actually, the first thing to do was to frame one sheet, and proudly hang it on my living room wall! :lol

Hope you like it! :cheers

Yo, yo...
So I finished the ad thingy recently...
Most are printed ads, but I left the big one empty so that I can project a moving video ad as usual.

And I detailed it all with my cool new antennas. I'm reeeeally happy with them.. it's a total level-up in detailing for me! :lol

Also, as usual, I installed some LEDs. White are static, and reds blink... Kinda like signal lights so flying cars wouldn't crash in the ads or something. The only important thing is that something is always blinking. :D

And another one:

I'll make some more similar stuff soon! :cheers

Luka, Photobucket has recently changed their picture hosting policy - some of the pics in your most recent post aren't showing.

You know you can upload pics to the board, to be hosted here, right?

Oh CRAP!
Doesn't that suck? And they want 400$ to allow third party hosting for a year?!?!?!?!?
So I switched to Imgur now.. Seems to work fine.. I just hope all the older posts wont break down. I have no idea how will I fix that if that happens! :angry

And now for something completely different! :D

Blade Runner had that fantastic blimp flying around the city, right? Well, we decided we also want something impressive to glide over our futuristic city, and we settled for spaceships. The way I see it they are huge industrial freighters transporting cargo, perhaps even from distant mining colonies or something... So in my mind they should look like aircraft carriers or have a shape of normal trucks.
Also, the one I'm building now is going to be somewhat important for the story so there's going to be some pretty cool shots of it in the film.

OK, so here's the basic shape.

I wasn't sure about the front part. I was experimenting with quick paper mockups, and then I found a small electrical box which gave me idea to make an open hangar. I settled for the bottom-right look.

I also detailed it with some kind of a crane inside the hangar.

Of course, there was A LOT of panel scribing goin' on and I glued thin sheets of plastic here and there to give it some more dimensionality (black and red pieces):

I decided to light if from inside with a single source. It's a kitchen neon light, but it's also very good for lighting spaceships! :lol

And now I can just drill tiny holes wherever I want and I get an instant light. It's also easy to vary the sizes of holes - just using different drill bits.

Not a really good picture, but here's the underside:

Next time - finishing and painting!
Hope you like my phallic design, hahahaahaaa

Nice! BTW, since BR and Alien universes may be the same, if you can find a Nostromo model, maybe you could include it was one of those haulers. Just tossing the idea out there. Keep up the excellent work. :D

Nice work, as always! Words of my art history professor that have always stuck with me: "A phallic symbol is anything that is longer than it is wide." G. McClaine. :-D

Yo!
Yeah, I escaped to the coast for a few days... What can I say... one has to chill a little, hehe..

But anyway I finished the spaceship.
Here's a view of the whole thing before primer:

fb90V1x.jpg

One would have never guessed but those three milky white "garage doors" on each side of the ship are actually molded from an old camera shutter. It looked so much like some kind of industrial doors that I simply HAD to make the mold and cast a few copies.. Also it gives a hint of scale to the ship!

And now the best part of any build - PRIMER:

uJItIPP.jpg

And here's the back side. I'm 99% sure it won't even be seen in the film, but I made the engines using the electrical boxes.. They make for a good building material, actually!

DOVODKl.jpg

After the primer I airbrushed it with light "spaceship grey" color:

And then it was time for the christening! :lol I kinda went for the names of Greek gods as they sound pretty cool and sci-fyish. You just can't miss with Greek gods! Initially I wanted to name it by my favorite Greek god - Dionysus :)cheers), however it just didn't work in therms of the film and the symbolism so I went with the more safe and boring one - Ares.

And Ares it was!

Till the next time!
