Magazine Holders DIY

My next challenge is to build the Magazine holder from common materials. The original mag holders were made from Kydex and really expensive. This motivated me to do this project using simple materials and come up with a near to original look.

Original Mag holders using Kydex

Using cardboard, I created the basic form using the dimensions as reference. Glued a cheap black leather on top of the cardboard to strengthen the form then add layer o resin to harden the form.

Using 3mm Foam and GI sheet, cut the mag holder frame and glue them together. I got a belt clip from a separate holster and use that as the belt clip for the mag holder frame.

Rivet the mag holder frame and belt clip to assure strong support. Apply white glue to the foam to preserve texture before painting.

Drill holes through the mag holder frame to align with the holsters.
Apply filler (bondo) to holsters and shape to desired form to that of Kydex.
Pre install holster to frame to confirm correct alignment of allen screws.

Adjust the holster opening to fit each mag then tighten the screws.
