Hi All, I am trying to make the Captain America rescue costume and figured I would start a thread. This is my first build (well I started Iron Man but never finished) Luckily there is a ton of good info on here for both the USO girl and the rescue build. I took most my inspiration from Fly4v he has a ton of great pictures on his build thread http://www.therpf.com/f24/captain-america-how-exciting-tws-tfa-rescue-uso-ultimates-ww2-150663/
Here is the iron man helmet I started.
I started with this jacket.
::Himalaya Leather:: Leather Jackets, Leather Pants, Leather Vest, Motorbike Gloves, Saddle Bags, Tool Bags, Cordura Garments, Cordura Jackets for Man, Ladies, Kids & Bikers.* USA
I cut off the belt, shoulder straps, and pocket. Drilled out the snaps.
Today I cut the end of the belt and sewed it into the collar to make the strap, sewed the shoulder straps into the wrists, sewed up the holes left by the snaps, dyed and washed the jacket.
To dye it I just brushed on the die with my favorite paint brush I tried to apply it fairly even but it dries so fast its kinda hard.
dye was bought here Amazon.com: Tandy Leather Fiebings Medium Brown Leather Dye Quart 2101-04: Automotive
I have enough left to dye probably 5 more jackets.
I let the jacket soak in hot water with a few cups of vinegar for a couple of hours and then washed it with cold water. I rubbed a paper towel on it and no dye came off but I will see how it holds up.
