Matty Ghostbusters Proton Wand

Holy hell, mine just arrived!

I originally saw this at SDCC but it was all busted from constant use and I assume dropping as I saw many of the other items slip out of sweaty geeky hands. While it is embarrassing that they did f up on the name of the damn product I find the other minor mistakes forgivable. I don't see many other prop/toys out there that do half the crap this does... the piece overall is very impressive as far as prop/toys go. Granted, I'm no GB nazi but its good enough for me and I'm happy to say my gf got my one for Xmas.

The final product that we just received is soooo much better than the one at SDCC.

I placed it next to my thrower on my pack and size was extremely close, and it looks great.

I am going to find a way to attach one to the pack I am building for my wife.

I picked one up and love it, the lights and sound are fantastic and it looks great! What are the differences between the final product and the one at Comic Con?

Ok so I have seen a few post in here where people are talking about how Matty mis-named the thrower. I found a thread on matty collector where a admin responded to a question about this. His reply was that this is the "offical" name given to them by Sony and they are not allowed to call it anything else. This makes a lot of sense to me if you know anything about how Sony treats the GB stuff.

Picked one up on Friday 12/20/13 I was so happy that stocks remained until payday. I plan on using this as my thrower on my pack I am building. This will save me the trouble of having to add sounds to the pack, now all I have to add is simple lights. Say what you will but I am really excited because the fuction out of this gun is something way more then I was planning.

Side note: Does anyone know what is the right V-hook to buy so the thrower will fit. Will the standard V-hook you see on the fan sites work with this?

Thanks to everyone for sharing the movies and pictures! This may not be the perfect prop replica, but for $150, it's a great start. I think it's worth it just for the electronics!

Can't wait to get mine!

Sean

Just got a box containing two of these... one for each son.

What size/number of batteries do I need to have on hand for Christmas morning?

Alex

So anyone hooked ones of these up to a pack yet? Kind of want to see how it looks part of a fan made pack.

Also anyone know how long it is supposed to take to ship within the United States. I orderd mine on 12/20/13 and was wondering how long it takes to ship (I live in minnesota)

I'm not happy with it at all. I originally bought it to replace my current thrower cause all the bells and whistles would have been cool but that isn't going to happen. My gf took one look at the matty and said mine looks so much better. The most disappointing thing is the tip, it looks like total crap. The tip is white instead of clear, the silver trigger thing goes over the entire end. I hate the motorized extension. The banjo things are black and molded onto the other pieces which is all a soft rubber.
I'm no expert on the size, I only have mine to go on which is an early throwing chicken but the matty is fast in comparison. There's seems and screw holes all over the place. The tip reminds me of the neck on the obi wan fx saber, it's just so fat.
It's not like the trap, it looks like a toy. My girl said the Same thing I thought: I'd be better off selling it and upgrading the lights on my current thrower.

I'll post some pics later

Someone over at GBfans.com painted parts of the tip brass collored (to make it more acurate) and it looks good.

I am getting this for my pack build and I am willing to sacrifice accuracy for function in some areas.

I have built multiple packs and think Matty did a great job on it as a toy. Can you use it on a pack? Yes but the pack is not going to look as authentic. But... Matty did a wonderful job on this an it has some incredible functions. I have trooped with other GB builders and the wand stands up to probably half the home builds I have seen. As a GB fan, I love this piece. If I needed a wand for a prop build, I would pop this on until I could build my own. Would not pop it on a final pack build but I might consider using the electronics or use it when escorting kids so they can have a wand to use themselves next to a fully suited GBer. On an average pack build trooping at night, there is no way the average person on the street is going to notice the details, they are going to be awed by the electronics. I have done many haunted houses with kids for elementary schools and for Boy Scout haunted camps and this would be perfect to have them use. I wished I could afford more just for that purpose alone.

Got mine and finally had a chance to play with it. I love it. Is it a great prop replica? No. Is it a great toy? Absolutely!

I'm surprised this isn't getting a better reception, it's probably Matty's best piece so far (it's only surpassed as a prop replica by the PKE due to the simplicity of the original).

I'm really impressed with the attention to detail here, they replicated stuff they honestly didn't even need to. It's clear they took one subject prop (all the GB props have a lot of variance in them) and replicated the details of it consistently. That's a real change of approach from their past two offerings (the Trap and Goggles).

Here's a couple of pics I took and a link to reference photos of the gun they seem to have based it on;
