Counting the minutes until the premiere. Got all three toys in the mail yesterday and picked up the opening night tickets, already sold out in my area, and decent reviews so far!

I'm trying to catch this on Fri night instead Thurs but I feel like the theaters in the LA area are dropping the ball on this one. Haven't been any tickets going on sale at my usual venues for screenings past Thursday night :( I've also been looking at the seats sold for the Thursday night screenings at Arclight, this movie is definitely not selling out around my neighborhood.

I'm finding the really high initial rating on RT a bit suspect. I know this movie only delivers on one front - badass giant kaiju/mecha action - but to garner over a 80% RT rating in the first couple days? That's just too high a score for this type of movie. It's down to 77% now and I expect it to drop a bit further. Let's all not forget that WB owns RT, and what better way to ensure a movie that wasn't tracking well a couple weeks ago succeed than to filter the reviews posted on your subsidiary for at least the first few days.

Keep in mind it's posting a 67 on Metacritic... more reason to suspect WB is messing with the RT scores.

EDIT: Either way I got my Thursday night tickets, so I'm committed to this movie whether it's good or disappointing.

I don't think that matters. Even if they skewed the percentage, when you hear from Adam Savage and other sources how good this is, I don't have any doubts it's good. People that seem to have a common interest in films are who I'd prefer to have voice their opinion.

If WB could control RT so well, I wonder why Man of Steel RT rating was so low. Besides, RT or any number ratings aren't true measures of quality of movies anyways. And this is Del Toro not Michael Bay, so I don't see why this movie can't have a high score. Not every big spectacle movie needs to be expected as a dumb blockbuster; they could still deliver an engaging film supported by good world building and characters to carry on the action and visuals. Lot of these reviews seems to indicate the same.

^ Except MoS also started out in the 70s then dropped down to its current score. And PR is a completely original film whereas MoS is sourced from a very well established franchise; marketing strategy is very different for each film. PR's issue as indicated on the tracking results is awareness; MoS certainly didn't have that issue. What's a good way to combat lack of awareness? Get it a good score on RT so the general audience will be interested.

End of the day all the reviews will post, my guess it's probably going to drop down closer to around 70 given the MC score. And I'm still seeing the movie tomorrow night, don't care for the score either but I think some people are seeing the RT score and getting really excited.

Forget any misguided negativity, Pacific Rim is indeed the action spectacle of the year! Hey, i'm already counting down until I go see it again.

Only Guillermo Del Toro could make a monster somewhat inspired by Sharktopus seem credible!

Even better, the often questionable comedy relief that shows up in blockbusters against people's wishes are actually tolerable in this film, and are even intelligent enough to actually do something.

Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks WB fudged the RT scores.
'Pacific Rim' and 'Grown Ups 2' Box Office Predictions | Rope of Silicon

When you're talking new releases, the topic on everyone's mind is Pacific Rim. The Brothers Warner have done a few brilliant things (frontloading the RT reviews with positives) and a few not so clever things (releasing a trailer filled with only loud noises).

WB sure as hell didn't buy RT just for the advertising revenue, let's not pretend nothing goes on in the background.

Got back from seeing it half an hour ago. In a word: wow! This lived up to my expectations. It put me in mind of a Godzilla movie with a huge budget. Not the Amecanized version with Mathew Broderic and Jean Reno, but Toho. Definitely a guy movie. I can already think of some plot holes, but the movie was fast enough that you don't get a chance to think about it. Ron Perlman was great.

Holy Cr@p!!!! So awesome!!!! I loved the old Godzilla movies. It is like comparing Pong to Call of Duty 4 on XBOX.
They made you believe.
The story makes sense as long as you understand it is a "Punch an Alien in the face" movie.
The side stories are plausible. OH, THAT'S why he doesn't want to get back in the suit, I wouldn't either.
OH THAT'S why he is all weird and secretive....

Lot's of stuff stolen from other movies. No big deal. If it ain't broke why fix it.
