EPIII R2-D2 cast Dome, Holo-Eyes, Radar Eye, and Radar Lens

Here are pics of the EPIII casts that were made by Justin Dix.
I wasn't really interested in the dome itself. It is not the best pull.
What I really wanted was the Radar-Eye and Radar-Lens.
These are out being scanned.
The STL files should be up on Thingiverse in a couple of weeks.

I still have the dome pull.
But it's not that great.
It's warped around the top.

I don't think it was screen use quality and probably discarded.

The radar eye and radar lens and hp's were clean pulls.
Which is why I jumped on it.

Hmmm...

That's not very insightful, Don. We expect a grand story here. Or it's just really late and I'm trying to find excuses not to go to sleep.

Its been a while but I thought I would add an update.
The Radar Eye and Lens where laser scanned. The files were uploaded to Shapeways and printed.
Below you can see the original production casts, the laser scan, and then the Shapeways 3d printed copies.
I was pretty happy with the results.
These seem like a good starting point for a solid 3D model.

Honestly I was horrified when I unboxed this dome.
I was hoping to have additional source material of the quantity of what was on the ANH blueprints or the ESB vacuum form dome.
I grabbed the radar eye and lens and boxed the dome back up.

It was not until about a year ago that some folks started asking questions about copper top.
I pulled the dome out and compared to some hi res screen caps and realized that copper top was all warped and riddled with casting defects.
You can pick any feature from a high res screen grab and compare to this pull and everything matches up.
To me it seems clear that this pull and the screen used pull share the same lineage. Not sure why there would be any confusion.

For me it ANH or nothing.
The plan is to scan this guy for my archives and then see if I can find it a new home where it would be a little more loved.
