My Shadow Gallery (My Prop Replica Collection) - Update 12/18 Marvel Cinematic Universe

Now that my collection reached a size that I deem respectable, I feel more comfortable to share some pictures of it with other fellow collectors.
To tell the short version of how I came to collect prop replicas, it pretty much all started when I first found these boards. That was in 2009, around Watchmen's release in theaters and I was kinda desperate to find references of a newspaper that was featured in the movie (the Newfrontiersman) and even though I never completed what should have been my first project, what I found on these boards over years of browsing was so much more valuable.
I came to discover (well much like rediscover) movies like Indiana Jones or BTTF with a totally different angle, film which became really, really important for me and my family, I met friendly, helpfull people which spared no efforts to introduce me to this hobby, to help me gather together some of the most wonderful items I've ever seen, things I thought I'd simply never get.

I had this talk with my brother in law a couple of days ago. He's part of this vast majority of people who doesn't get the point to get prop replicas from a movie. I tried to explain him why I put so much effort and money in this hobby. I think it all comes from the way I actually watch a movie. They're like journeys, stories that make you travel to exotic countries, outer space locations beyond your imagination, that make you meet billionaires with their suit of armor, time-travelling teenagers from the 80's and their hoverboards, dream robbers, super soldiers, charming and deadly spies, archeologists from the past, cops from the future ... and getting items from these stories is pretty much like getting a souvenir from and actual trip. It's just a way to remind you of the good time you spent watching these films, sharing the experience with people you like and talking endlessly about them.

Anyways long story short, as for explaining the name that is attached to this thread, I use to collect rare ancient books as well as prop replicas, and when I bought SSkunky's CFO V for Vendetta mask, before I received the custom made stand, I just putted it on a shelf in the middle of my books. One day I had a visit from my cousin and she told me something like: "Cool, now you have you're own Shadow Gallery !" and the name just sticked until today.

There's a lot of pictures coming, any comment, or ideas of any kind are of course very welcome. ;)

Very cool Jon. I knew from a previous post of your showing some of your Indy props, that you have some very nice pieces. Looking forward to more. :thumbsup

Re: JKKS' Shadow Gallery (My Prop Replica Collection)

Love the displays. Very neat and well presented! can't wait to see the rest, Jon.

Why do you have your name in the title of the thread?

Thanks Luke, means a lot from another Indy fan. An I'm really glad that I got on your temple dart run because I think that it ties my ROTLA shelf quite nicely.

Thanks for the kind words Ian. ;)

I must admit that before reading your message it didn't occur to me that it may sound a bit weird in english (but it indeed does). I will edit the thread's title. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: My Shadow Gallery (A.K.A My Prop Replica Collection)

Now that my collection reached a size that I deem respectable,...

That, sir, is an understatement! I love the way that you have everything displayed, and the items themselves are beautiful and obviously chosen with a lot of care and attention to detail. I can't wait to see updates in the future. :thumbsup

Really?!! That is all you have to say? You know Armando, I've seen several of your ''pet peeve'' threads in the OFF-TOPIC section, (the ones where you like to nit-pick the way other members do things like bumping their own Junkyard threads, putting their names in the Titles of their Show-off threads, etc..), and I thought that they were pointless, and frankly, rather juvenile. You have the right to post them, obviously. (To each their own I suppose.) But whenever I see you go into somebody else's thread and try to ''correct'' them publicly because of your own neurosis and personal ''preferences'' for the way that things should be done, it really is quite disturbing. If this was the only instance of that happening I'd probably hold my tongue, but it's not. This is a community, sir. Please try to remember that other people are allowed to do things the way that they want to just as much as you. (No hard feelings Funkmeister but I felt it needed to be said.) ;)

Sorry for the rant in your prop-thread, Jon. :$:thumbsup

Thanks Adam. That means a lot to me coming from someone with such an amazing collection. :thumbsup
No worries for the rant of course.

I'll update some more pics in the next coming days. Thanks for watching ;)

Very cool Bond displays, Jon. (And I love the look of those DARK KNIGHT props in the display cases! They look like museum pieces.) :cheers

Re: My Shadow Gallery (AKA My Prop Replica Collection) Updt 03/03 BTTF, Bond, TDK Tri

Thanks Adam. Actually I use these display cases for all the small items I have, that I don't/can't display in my detolfs. They're the perfect size and it makes dusting much easier.

Re: My Shadow Gallery (AKA My Prop Replica Collection) Updt 03/03 BTTF, Bond, TDK Tri

Thanks Kan. That's heart warming. ;)

Great collection! I'm glad, that I could help you out with some of my graphics. :)

Re: My Shadow Gallery (AKA My Prop Replica Collection) Updt 03/03 BTTF, Bond, TDK Tri

You have a fantastic array of items in your collection, and you've displayed them really well! I agree with your points about each item being a memento of the journey the movie has taken you on. Well said! :D

Jon,
I really like the explanation you gave your brother-in-law about prop collecting.I think it says it all. A guy once asked me why I collect movies.
He said that he couldn't understand someone watching a movie more than once.
My answer " Given that type of logic you would only listen to a song once and then throw away your cd or record ".

Fantastic, simply Fantastic.

Thanks man, appreciate it. ;)

Thanks a bunch Stoney.
The display cases come from a british seller on ebay called admiralharding. They're originally made for model cars, but I thought they would be great to display small props. As for the Casino Royale one I just customized a standard case by adding some green felt to the base (I glued it using some double-sided tape).

Great collection! I'm glad, that I could help you out with some of my graphics. :)

Woah thanks a lot Roland. Your help was indeed much appreciated with these impressive graphics that allowed me not to get the awful looking Matty Hoverboard (even though I must admit that when I saw your upgrade kits I kinda wish for a second I had bought it).
And this is not the only time your work helped improving my BTTF collection. I have your Match Made In Space cover being printed as we speak and it will fit like a glove on the Ted Morgan's book I bought following your advices.

Thanks a lot, and there is much more coming.
I'm just missing the time to take pictures of the rest of my collection but it's coming, sooner than later hopefully. ;)

Well I guess not everyone loves movies as much as we do. And I tend to watch things I like several times. It's really not complicated, I think we all have our "Violon d'Ingres", things we are passionate about and that we like to do, watch or hear repeatedly. I'd actually feel sorry for someone ignoring that feeling.

Re: My Shadow Gallery (My Prop Replica Collection) Updt 03/23 The Avengers, Bond, TDK

Some update as promised:

Updated

I will have more BTTF and Indiana Jones updates next week and hopefully some more Marvel Studios movies to showcase a bit after that.

Once again, thanks for watching. All those comments were really heartwarming.
