my Ghostbusters props

Call it fate, call it luck, call it karma....

What a great thread. Thought I was gonna take a glimpse, and I got sucked in to the whole thing. I'm a little disappointed that I haven't seen your containment unit yet..... One costume I've always wanted to do was a Venkman apartment sweep costume, with one of the little toys. Fun to learn a bit about all of this stuff!

Keep it up. My inner 8-year-old me is totally jealous of your kids.

Alex,

You had some great luck there. I too am waiting on my replacement Alice frame, likely from the same seller. I'm expecting a green LC-2. I should be so lucky as you.

I went through the first post and re-did several of the links. Some of them fixed themselves after I tested the first one. Hoping a few more will spontaneously pop back.

I'll try to go back through and fix the others in a day or two. Very handy to be able to edit old posts here, that's a luxury some websites lack.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I always pop in here through the last post I made. Hadn't checked page 1 in a while.

UPDATE: Whoa, lots of broken pics. I have reconstructed the first four pages of this thread. If you've never seen them, check them out while they're working again.

I couldn't find a couple of them, so I used later similar pics, though this led to a couple of minor anachronisms. If you see a prop in a pic but it hasn't been explained yet, just keep scrolling, it will show up again at the proper chronological time with an explanation.

Still need to do the NYC pics on page 5, but I've noticed that some of the links I fixed last night have already broken and I've repaired them a second time.

So I'm not sure how long this repair will last.

Forgot to share this one. Back in February or so, folks began to scrutinize a production still showing Dan Aykroyd with a huge Maglite as part of his belt gear.

I went through two sizes of Maglites and three different holsters (one broke the first time I wore it) before arriving at this look back in October.

That's a 5 D-cell Maglite.

I partially arrived at this decision by measuring my own femur to see which size would look best. :p

And a comparison.

The pattern of the knurling doesn't quite match, but that may have been something they changed since the 80's.

I did an overlay with the best knurling match on the butt end, which on the Dan side of the pic is the 4-C (mine is the 5-D) but then the knurling doesn't match at the lamp end.

Does anyone know if they've changed the knurling since the 80's?

Either way, I love seeing that it tugged his belt down exactly the same way mine looked and felt all that day. I suspect that's a large reason this was worn only extremely briefly during the making of the film.

Here's another pic I had forgotten about where I'm wearing the flashlight.

This was taken by my youngest on Hallowe'en night at Books-A-Million.

I am holding the all-Ghostbusters special issue of SFX magazine, pointing to my own photo on page 160.

Totally by happenstance, under my flightsuit I was wearing that same gray T-shirt on Hallowe'en that I'd worn for the collection pic.

I guess ever since the New York trip it's my lucky GB shirt.

Actually, this is more a testament to my patience than my locating abilities.

I kept watching copies of this issue listed on eBay for around $25 Buy It Now prices, but they never seemed to sell.

Finally, a seller popped up who was only asking $5 for one... plus he had a Make Offer option.

I offered him just over half of his asking price, $2.77, and to my surprise he accepted it.

Admittedly, it would be nice to find one without a shipping label on it (if I remove it, the decades-old adhesive will remove part of the cover) but it was such a bargain, I can live with it being less than 100% accurate.

PS

This morning, another copy popped up on eBay, but this seller is asking $120.00 for that same issue of Cosmo... and it too has a shipping label on it.

It really makes me want to have an entire Ghostbuster attire now :p

I thought Janine from the cartoon would be pretty cool :p I wonder how the new female cast will be represented for the new movie. Same outfits & colour? :p

Not sure how they'll handle it for the movie.

I've seen some decent versions of cartoon-inspired Janine costumes before.

I'm not a fan of the 'sexy Ghostbuster' costumes, personally, although we poked fun at it in my improv comedy troupe's GB-themed show last June.

Our 19-year-old female troupe member came out at the start of the show, in a regular flightsuit like everyone else.

I, as the emcee, said "Oh, there was a different costume back there for you."

She said, "But this one fits."

I said, "Gee, I have to say that's disappointing. Oh well, and our final member of the troupe is Michael Bradley!"

And then HE came out in the tiny skimpy sexy shortpants Ghostbusters costume.

I think it proved my point.
