Something out of Nothing - Budget Builds lets see them!

I did some BTTF 2 props on next to no cost.

First one is my dehydrated Pizza.

Total cost was $1.80 for the printing and laminating of the packet. The Pizza itself cost $0.00, made from bits I had at home.

The 2nd is this FX set of MAGs I am making.

It is still a work in progress and so far has cost $0.00 using stuff I had at home (hence the white mesh and navy thread). When done, they should lace the same as the movie shoe did with a draw cord passing through the sole.

Here's an "expanded universe" Star Wars prop. I thought this was an original idea, but after I made it I was told that something similar happened in one of the books or comics.

I want to say it cost me nothing, but the materials I used I did buy at some point in the past, it had all been lying around for months or years. But since I didn't have to go out and buy anything to start/finish it, I guess it falls in a grey area. It also had two blinking lights.

Dropship I have seen pictures of your build before, and I must say it is stunning. Wether or not it is original or not it rocks! It's original enough for me!

Taking a page from one of your builds, a budget Boba Fett jet pack. Built from pink-sheet housing insulation and some left over PVC pipe.

And lastly (for now) 3/4 scale proton pack made from (you guessed it) pink sheet insulation.

Thanks for the compliment. This stuff isn't the fiberglass, it's a form of polystyrene. It comes in flat 4x10 foot sheets of thicknesses from1/4 inch to about 2 inches.

These are freaking amazing!

I'm live theater -- I'm always on a ridiculously low budget. But nothing I've built is even a tenth as pretty as what I'm seeing in this thread.

Case in point:

A cam-bot built for "Willie Wonka." Ran around on stage carrying a live (wireless) video feed. Total cost under $200 -- I included paint and glue and materials I already had in stock in the final estimate.

I was really surprised the little bot survived until closing night.

Posted in another thread but here is a HAL interface that cost zero, made from scrap on hand at work

And this is a TARDIS made from scrap after a guitar build. Not finished yet, and done in a folk art style, it is about three inches tall

I built a Vortex Manipulator for a Capt. Jack Harkness Halloween costume this year. Total cost was under $20 as nearly all of it was scraps from other builds. The expensive element was the snaps!

Just finished my Roman lorica segmentata armor build:

The sword and helmet are replicas that I found online (I have the ability to make the metal cheek pieces, but not the helmet dome). I made the armor from strips of sheet metal that I cut and bent to shape, held together with brass cabinet hinges and lacing loops cut from a brass door kickplate. I riveted them together with copper carpet tacks. I did cheat on the inside where no one can see--the original Roman armor was held together on the inside by a net of leather to which each metal strip was riveted--I didn't want to do all that riveting so I used strips of duct tape instead. I've done chainmail armor before, but this is my first plate armor. I'm happy with the way it turned out. The total cost for the armor was about $60. :)
