Black Widow… Avengers movie costume fabric

This has been asked in a few different threads, and pretty much the general opinion is that it was a custom made fabric so finding something exact off the shelf is going to be near impossible.

It's prob a type of Leather I mean u can always check spandex world they have a material that looks close to it

haven't found exact stuff, but i'm using a thick spandex from joanns (matte/wrong side out) and layering a good strong spandex mesh from thttp://www.nyfashioncenterfabrics.com/ over the top to get the effect. word is that her outfit doesn't breathe well, and since i plan on going to cons and the like and being COMFORTABLE, i choose spandex over a rubber. this is actually bodysuit mkII - the first i used a non-stretchy mesh (which is somewhat stretchy, due to it being a mesh, but not enough) and it tore when i tried to put it on and lost ALL that beautiful texture..... this new stuff work better.
i really wish that costume designers for movies were cosplayers themselves. it would make actors MUCH less miserable in their outfits (though they do look absolutely stunning) and make our lives easier when hunting down material and wanting to do the outfits ourselves.

I also read an article that ScarJo shredded a few of her costumes doing stunts so I'm going to guess that the stretch factor of hers was not the best either.
I like the idea of using the wrong side of a thicker spandex, seems pretty reasonable to me. The other option is starting an interest thread here and custom-designing something that would look screen-accurate but be more comfortable, then do a run with many folks to help with the budgeting and whatnot.

It is my understanding that the fabrics for Black Widow, Capt., and Hawkeye were all custom made for this film.

Wow typos in my post above. merrr. that's what i get for trying to type quickly at work!
i am all for that, but a) it's still going to be quite expensive and b) i'm not sure who to go to for that. i have friends who managed to get repros of the 10th doctor fabric and 8th doctor waistcoat fabric, and it was still upwards of $30/yd. Not sure if there'd be enough interest to get a 50-100yd roll of this done. I'll try to get pics of my mesh/spandex layering tonight, but i won't get to work on the actual bodysuit until next week.

In my opinion, based on the texture, it's some sort of stretchable Denier type nylon and I read somewhere that they used some sort of nylon for the actual costume. One fabric type to look into that someone else suggested in another thread is the type of material used in motorcycle racing suits, this jacket in particular seems to be made of a similar material to BW's catsuit, it's made from 600-denier polyester and the texture looks kind of like the material used for both BW's and Hawkeye's costumes.

I just found a site that carries all sorts of heavy duty type fabrics, it might be useful for trying to figure what type of material was used for BW's costume as well as for other "exotic" material costumes.

Yeah, $30 a yard is a lot at the end of the day makes sense. I think that there would be more interest once the Blu Ray is out largely because high-res screenshots can be taken and whatnot but then again, that's after big cons like SDCC, D*C, etc.
Will hop back to take a look at fabric pics, am curious about your combo!

No need for the Blu-ray, there are already super hi-res shots of all the Avengers out there and I mean really hi-res where you can see the texture of the materials used for the costumes very clearly.

You can also do a search for Avengers wallpapers, some of the official ones are also pretty hi-res and fairly close up as well. Between them and the ones from the link you get a really good look at costume materials.
Here's a link to a good close up of Scar Jo's costume, it looks like a mesh on some sort of backing based on this image, possibly a nylon mesh, the site I linked to previously has some fabrics that might be good candidates.

I also noticed that her belts seem to be using the same material as well, at least the one with the red hourglass buckle does.

From my initial research it would likely be in the neighborhood of $75-$100 yard if you want ultra accurate.

I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with as far as layering two materials to get the look! I was actually thinking the same thing! Another thing that really needs to be taken into account is the color of the materials. Is the material blue, navy blue, blue gray, black? LOL!!!

I've seen those fabrics in the Spandex House in NYC, but they're all shiney.... I've been to every fabric store in the fabric district and didn't find anything that could be used x__x Obviously the fabric exists, somewhere.... But all of those are basically just shiney. But if you DO find it, I think it's a pretty good replacement! (I don't believe that black one is non-shiney, it's just the lighting...? But it's hard to tell from that tiny pic)
