1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

He 3D printed the Coughtrie Lamp base used for the corridor lights

I have an original base. Izzy's base is screen accurate to Starkiller's 3D model. I wonder if Coughtrie made several different sizes?

love those buckles! I'm glad the model I sent you worked out for printing.

I think it's definitely possible coughtrie made two types. As you can see in the print of mine the bolts are lined up with the fins, and on your original they aren't. Now I know I didn't put those bolts there by accident so I looked around.

I can definitely see that coughtrie had at least two variants, one with bolts between the fins and one aligned with the fins.

the dimensions I got were off those specs we found of the coughtrie fixture for sale some years back. It's possible that either the specs were measured wrong, there are several sizes, or I'm bad at reading... haha. Anything is possible! Still, at least the shape is good, if I do say so!

looks like bolts on fins for ANH and ESB

And the "solof.jpgSolo" movie version set about 10 years before A New Hope.

I am also looking for this "bolt" , this prop is on the death star (room where C3po and R2d2 hide) . The exact bolt you have SofaKing01 has a name? need to found one too and duplicated him .

Hi Gang,

WOW!!! 1,499,000 VIEWS!!! That is amazing! It certainly has been an incredible journey so far! Let's hope for another fun 1,499,000 views! :)

Time for the "End of the Weekend" Update!

This weekend was no different than the last few weekends. LOTS of design work in the background going on and I still had car problems BUT the car issues are finally behind me (fingers crossed).

With design being done by a few others I took the opportunity to work on the 1/4" scale cockpit. I decided to make the panels modular similar to the full scale build. I cut these frame pieces

20180310_140040_zpsg7rd3bor.jpg

I designed and laser cut a practice panel - the upper panel
20180310_155736_zpskwa7gpfy.jpg

There are two layers of panels - the lower which holds the LEDs and the upper which will have a decal and have the blue and white tiles and greeblies attached

This is only a mock-up. But these mock-ups are 13" long!

I went round and round with the design and finally reached the point where I could laser cut the main cylinder (body) joists

This is basically where I got with the 1/4" scale

I have access to a metal lathe but dont have the material yet. So for "shiggles" I added a few threaded rods to keep the lid in place

I'm hoping the car issues are finally resolved. I took a HUGE financial hit with repairs so forward progress will be slow as I build the account back up. Luckily, I have lots of material to keep us going here and there! :)

More to follow!

Um, evidently I missed something. A 1/4 scale cockpit? I guess I need to stop scrolling down to just look at the pretty pictures. That is going to be freakin' awesome!

Cool compressor, if you're into that sort of thing.

What were the original belts/buckles off of? Any chance of finding a pair of original buckles?

I'm always amazed at what you can 3D print these days. Nice job Izzy!

Hey K,

My apologies for the late response. Things have been crazy these past few weeks!

I don't think we/anybody has been able to identify the buckles used. There is a shot of the buckle from ANH that has been clearly greeblied so I dont know if we'll ever actually know. I could be totally wrong!

Which size of lamp part is the correct one?

Hey Lt W,

Starkillers 3D model is the most screen accurate so I can only assume that Coughtrie made several variations of the lamp base for different applications. As of this writting, the model Izzy 3D printed is screen accurate. So... I'll do my best to fill, sand smooth and then we'll make a mold to knock out what we need.

I am pretty sure this link should be somewhere in the 389 pages, but while waiting for our best weekly series : The last update of the cockpit, this https://sites.google.com/site/millenniumfalconnotes/ deserves your attention.

Hi F,

I enjoy popping over to the site from time to time and catching up. Thanks for posting! :)

The other visual clue is the top of the base. The screen used lamp base has a very rounded over top where as the larger version is the complete opposite. My money is on the smaller base.

Hey S,

Unfortunately, I dont have that information. When the time comes I'm going to reach out to Coughtrie (I believe they still exist) and see if they can identify the bolts and the actual base.

Cool compressor, if you're into that sort of thing.

Hey K,

For the past few years I've been tinkering with creating an exact replica of the full scale build at 1:4 scale. Iz is working his 1:6 scale as well using all the same files. The idea is to line them up all together.

I've even considered a 1:2 scale! My mind likes to wander, confuse and excite me all at the same time! ;)

Not sure if these will help at all, but here's a couple of cool shots from the TLJ blu ray special features.

Hey T,

ANY images help!!!! Thanks so much. We're slowly realzing that MANY of the greeblie details are consistent with the original ESB cockpit. Although the TFA/TLJ designers didn't use/have access to the same real world parts (greeblies), they did try to, and in most cases successfully, recreate those same greeblies. I'll be redoing several of the 15" extension panel greeblies for starters!

Thanks again! Keep those images coming! :)

Hi Gang,

Just a quick "verbal" update! Things have been somewhat slow these past few weeks and I do apologize. I was hoping to have some real progress done but unfortunately life has slapped me around quite a bit! The car situation seems to have finally worked itself out (knocks on wood) and, despite the financial hit I took, its been almost a week since the engine light turned on. There have been a few other road blocks and financial hurdles I've had to jump but it seems like things are finally smoothing out...

Enough about that! Let's get back to work and have some fun! :)

There‘s no need to apologize. These things can really slow you down and often enough happen at the wrong time. But now I‘m just looking forward to your progress.
I repeat myself but this build is simply extraordinary and incredibly awesome. Keep up the brilliant work[emoji847][emoji4]

Some basic sizes here on the light part that I'm fairly sure is the correct greeblie, see how it measures up with yours SK.

The glass bell that covers the light bulb can be seen on the underside of the ESB Falcon and on the tops of the moisture vaporators.

I like how every wall lamp in the Falcon corridors has GLASGOW in tiny letters on them. Even if they're not screen-legible.

This is what the RPF represents to me...

The way everyone comes together with their expertise, leg work, and experience to make another's project come out as accurate as possible...
There are other social media platforms, and other forums/communities, but none quite like the RPF.

Sorry to read about the car issues Sofa. Hope everything is working well enough for you now.

Here's a diagram from the product spec sheet.

View attachment 803177

Now that's an interesting size discrepancy, I'm seeing 115mm in diameter (there's a slight 1mm wobble with my tape measure). But a 5mm difference is huge in manufacturing terms - if indeed my light is the same product as in the document. It's possible that slight size differences like this are used to denote the year or decade of manufacture without spoiling the look, I've heard of that before.

Veeeeery inteeeresting.

MFgreebs4.JPG

EDIT: ....Ooh, unless the doc is describing the outer edge to centre of the screw fixing - that would be more sensible, lol!

I don’t think so. The diagram looks clear to me that their dimension is from outer edge to outer edge. I suspect that what the company sells now is a redesigned part to replace the ones we are interested in. Hopefully, the one you have is of the pattern we’re interested in.
