1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang,

Not much of an update this time around. Too many unrelated things going on, work has somewhat stalled with the laser cutter down and our having to wait for material to be delivered. BUT KUDOS to Daniel for trying his best to get the laser cutter power supply working but it looks like we need a new one... ugh...

Anywho... One of the Nav Chairs (which I was hoping to make a LOT of progress on this weekend) was bugging me so I finally added more details and fixed a few errors

Adding some bolts

The back nacelles finally getting worked on and mounted

20171014_091100_zpswfsipmkd.jpg

As you can see from this image the nacelle is touching the back part of the armrest - I have to move the armrest back 1/4"

20171014_095130_zpsso1pqq97.jpg

I love to be able to finish these off and add the small pop rivet details but with the laser cutter down I'll have to wait for the laser cutter
20171014_095136_zpshex5cfbg.jpg

Moving the armrest back 1/4" to help the nacelle fit required new holes to be drilled
20171014_095443_zpsmnov9lyx.jpg

Adding a bit more adhesive to the under layer skin

Adding more details

Filling holes

20171014_151626_zpsgcurqyzw.jpg

I was able to cut a few pieces of the 1" half round rubber strips but it requires two people to hold the strip in place while cutting
20171015_092120_zps12kaqfpk.jpg

Two pieces fit here - 4 total on the armrests
20171015_092138_zpssjgwqjra.jpg

One of the interior pipe details popped off leaving some ugly adhesive that I couldn't get off so I repainted and added the red detail

I like it

20171015_114923_zpsrlifsf0l.jpg

I added some felt pads to the back of the new console to help keep it from sticking to the corridor paint

Read through this message board thread. Might be of help... http://www.huntsvillecarscene.com/showthread.php?t=4451

Thanks T! Several of those companies have a BAD reputation here in HSV. But there were a few I didn't recognize. :)

Hey B,

Thanks so much! Yeah, we were kinda bummed about the power supply not being able to be saved. Although a buddy of mine is taking it and is going to look deeper into it. BUT... we have to order a new one. It'll be down for a little while more.

Looks great. I don't know what it's like where you are, but the past week has had some great weather here in North TX. You getting any of that?

Hey Lt W,

Thanks! The rubber finally shows up for the Nav Chairs and I'm unable to move forward because of the laser cutter... UGH.

Lucky you! There was a week or so a few weeks back where the weather broke and it was in the 60s. It was awesome! And then all of a sudden the last tropical storm pushed up more heat and humidity - especially humidity! And it just hung around as if to sit over top of us. It was almost 90 yesterday. This morning... it was 48. Our transition between Summer and Fall lasted 6 hours! ;)

I think we've seen the last of the summer weather! Let's hope!

I know it's getting late in the season but you might hit up a local car show and ask around on the upholstery. Hot rod/Street rod guys will definitely know where to go and where NOT to go.

Hey K,

We have a hot rod shop a few doors up from the project. I chatted with them over the weekend and they gave me a few names. Most shops are afraid of customers who demand/expect the attention to detail that come from custom jobs. But the person I'm calling deals with those exact customers - which means I need to open my wallet a little bit more!

Hi Gang,

Time for a quick end of the weekend update. Still no power supply for the laser cutter and no Alumiclad for the exterior skin. I worked all day Saturday then took Sunday off to relax! Anywho...

I cut the round edges of the 3' hose fittings

Then painted

20171021_105353_zpsnpzj4k1l.jpg

I then added some detail to the fittings

As I went I cut the corrugated pipe to fit
20171021_120648_zpsonagwmbk.jpg

And painted

I then jumped to cutting more of the 1" rubber 1/2 round

I notched the ends

Back support almost done. I still have to laser cut a few things in order to be screen accurate but we're getting there

More to follow so stay tuned!

The chairs are fabulous one of the many parts I’ve enjoyed seeing being built from scratch, the best for me has to be the iconic look of the cockpit windows,
I’m also really looking forward to the gunner position build, many a time I’ve sat in a computer swivel chair and pretended to be in the gunner position !!! But many a time I’ve been told off by the wife “because I might break it “ ( spoil sport ) why can’t women stay in touch with there inner child ?
