1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

It's all looking great and technical SK. I have a feeling that the movie prop peeps may have looked at this thread for ideas on the overhead greeblies and the general layout of that area, unless they had the actual photos of the ESB setup. In amongst their tray greeblies is a near perfect mock up of the part seen in the Snowspeeder but this is very hard to spot just going by the usual reference pics. Even with the best resolution photos (of the commonly found reference material) I'm not sure they would've worked it out, as the rest of their actual greeblies around that area are just a little bit off. So I'm thinking you are referencing your own work lol!!!

The two trays could well be something along the lines of those portable JVC type TV/radio combis, they used to turn up in everything from The Professionals to Space 1999 - or, a cassette deck hifi chassis, x2. There's a TV or oscilloscope tube next to where Luke gets a defrosting - I wonder....

Hey W,

Thanks! That would be more than amazing if those guys checked in on my build for ideas! LOL How funny would that be if I'm copying myself?! I'm wondering if all those cylindrical parts are 3D printed? I know you were able to identify one of them?

The JVC TV/Radio combo is exactly what I was thinking. I'm considering buying one but would hate to find out there is nothing similar or the frames, if they even existed, weren't even close. I'll stick with the 1/8" MDF for now.

unreal progress my friend. looks fantastic

Thank you, my friend! It's been quite a journey so far. I'm DEF feeling the past 4.5 years...

I like the new round footwell greeblies! They are visually very interesting in and off themselves, which is always a good thing. You have managed to make them look like something that is a working part of some arcane machinery.

Also, you should consider changing your user name to "Laser cutter King". I can't see your sofa getting much use these days :)

Looks fantastic!

I don't know how you find the energy to keep at it the way you do. So many steps backward for every foot forward. I get frustrated adding multiple coats trying to darken the bluing on my Denix mausers :lol.

Never a dull moment checking out the progress of our favorite Correllian freighter :cool.

Hey FF,

Thanks for the kind words! I really like them as well. I'm very happy with how they turned out. I'm actually taking design cues from the Quad Gunner Stations for the foot well greeblie panel and overall design / layout. I'm considering introducing some red and grey colors to the panel and greeblies. I think this will be more consistent with the overall design of the MF and a nice carry over / homage from the gunner layout.

Hope it works! :)

Hey SB,

Thanks so much! It's funny you mention my finding the energy to keep going... The past few weeks with the Volvo Panels, the continuing issues and thousands of dollars put into the laser cutter and, as you mentioned, the countless steps backwards... I running out of gas and find myself more frustrated than excited. I'm having to dig very deep to keep motivated. But... we all work through it, right?

It's DEF true... NEVER a dull moment here at the 1:1 Scale Hamburger Olive! ;)

Hi Gang,

The new controller and button pad for the laser cutter arrived!

UGH... :facepalm

Hi Gang,

Time for an early morning update!

Well... the laser cutter, despite the touch pad screen being shattered (and now being replaced), actually works! There are several functions within the LaserCad (not LaserCut) software that allow us to control the gantry (move the laser) back and forth, up, down, etc... So all was not completely lost! More on that in a sec!

I finished work on the vertical support beams - sanding and painting

Strike this task off the list
20161022_141619_zpsibo9nl5h.jpg

I then finished up the second of this greeblie - before weathering

After

I remounted the window. The blue tape you see will help me find a pattern I need to cut... more on that later

This is a critical step in helping me add the outer skin

On to the laser cutter... this is where I spent most of the weekend. Did it actually work?

YES!

I had cut two different end caps. The first...

So what are these "counter sunk" holes for?
20161023_174216_zpsaafforpz.jpg

Just like the gunner station I'm going to add 4 panel lights to complete the basic look! EDIT: I just ordered 2 yellow and 2 red panel lights

What do you guys think?

I'm not sure I'm going to add them because they are so fragile. I'll finish them up, paint them and see how everything looks

I'm assuming the thing in the display is not a pretty picture of flowers!:facepalm

Hey RN,

Can you believe it? No pretty flowers...

I thought I said no disintegrations!

It isn't what they wished...

I love it! Great work SK.

Thanks SB! I'm really happy with how they're turning out. I just need to identify / fabricate a few of the surrounding greeblies from the gunner station area, add some loose wires and pin stripes and mark this off the list!

SK: "Let's adhere all this MDF together!"

Us: "Let's adhere all this MDF!!!" :D

I may need some of those exquisite new panels - but do I go full on 1977 or the half sized 1980? Both are cannon/canon.

I think you can affix them lenses to just about anything and that thing instantly becomes an OT 1977 Star Wars MF!

LOL!

Us: Aluminum

Wavey: AL-EWE-Min-E-UM ;)

Gotta love the different phrases and pronunciations! :)

I think you should go full on 77! That's what everybody remembers. The designers did a fantastic job for EP VII, but it looked too clean for me. I like the original used ANH version.

Do you want the DXF files? I can send those out to you? I'll have to resize them for the 77 version... Let me know your thoughts!

Hi Gang,

BLAST from the PAST!

Hard to believe it was a year ago today I was laser cutting these tiny 1/6th scale greeblies for Izzy and his 1/6th scale Cockpit Build!
