1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang,

An early morning update!

I stopped by the warehouse after work and made some forward progress on the nose!

Instead of cutting holes on the outside of the nose to marry up the nose and body, it actually made sense to create removable panels on the inside! Marking up the material to remove

I'll design a panel that will screw into place to cover the hole

I then married up the nose and body!

I then put the window back on!
20160909_201800_zpsktxejeym.jpg

As you can see, the added material will help with the Volvo Panels. However, this also means (which i was already aware) I HAVE to now add material to the window so the nose and window marry up together

I have to create a cover piece that will hide this hole between the window and the new panel I created
20160909_210430_zpscvdcubqv.jpg

Can't have that!

Hi Gang,

Weekend Update Part II

I remounted these greeblies but had to make them stand off the panel so everything fit

Hi Gang,

Weekend Update Part III!

A brief detour... Daniel stopped by with one of his buddies who is faithfully recreating a 1:1 scale Maz mask! Brilliant!

And here is the BEST and most mind numbing part of Sunday afternoon... the laser cutter works. All the hoops we jumped through, the roadblocks, hurdles, etc... it was nothing more than dirty connections on the board. Daniel removed the new controller board and replaced the old one just to see if it would work. It worked perfectly... :facepalm

Now we're back in business! :)

My thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost so much on this day 15 years ago...

Stay Tuned for More!

Awesome! I assume you keep a notebook or two (or two hundred) of all dimensions and such for when you build the next one?

Hey T,

Closer to the 2 hundred! ;) As you may know, this started out as the ANH version then quickly morphed in the ESB version so there are a LOT of discrepancies. Ver 2 will consolidate all the different dims and it will be much more screen accurate and easier to assemble.

Nope, it's all in his head! :lol

There's not that much space! ;)

Looking so good

Thank you, Sir! She's finally seeing some real forward progress!

- - - Updated - - -

Gosh, she's really coming together nicely. The nose window is ART!!!

Thank you, my friend! Starkiller and OperaScot played a key role in making that window a reality! Kudos to them!

Hi A,

Thank you so much for the kind words and your staying power! We really do appreciate the support! And as I always say "Stay Tuned"! :)

- - - Updated - - -

Every update is just plain stunning!!! :thumbsup

Hey P,

Thank you so much! We're just now getting into unexplored territory with the new corridor platform, the nose skin / outer skin and of course a new canopy (done correctly)! Fingers crossed it's smooth sailing and nothing less than a fun ride!

Wouldn't it be simpler to just use a small bit of plastic tube? That would save weight (well, a few grams worth at least) as well.

Hey FF,

I actually found a great substitute! Huntsville Scott, who rebuilds, restores and designs his own arcade and pinball machines (he also shares the warehouse with us), found a few small plastic tubes I could use while taking apart an old arcade cabinet - they are perfect. So I can knock that task off the list! :)

Seeing this build always give me shivers down my spine (the good kind)!

How are you planning to cover the hatches? Hatches could be really cool looking greeblies in themselves, though I doubt you'd see much of them once the console is in place.

Hi FF,

Thanks! The next few months should require a back brace - I HOPE! ;)

Which hatches are you referring? The holes I cut on the nose side panels?

Hi Gang,

Not much of a weekend update. Spent most of yesterday cleaning the workshop and getting ourselves more organized. Also, the rain, as usual, decides to make an appearance on the weekend making it tough to use the power tools... The laser cutting seems to be holding steady so that's a good thing and I was able to knock a few things out.

Finally updated and cut this greeblie
