1/700 & 1/350 scale BH Cygnus builds

I love that probe ship.

The Cygnus looks wider in some of the paintings--I'd love to see those as physical models.

Now that computers can turn 2d photos into 3D constructs--I wonder if your physical model might be a reference. I've seen computers that do "new" Rembrants.

I want to see this done. With Deep dreaming--perhaps struts can be used as detail upon detail.

The Palomino has arrived and had a coat of primer. Now waiting on my new airbrush, so I can get on and finish this project.
Also did a bit of masking on another, smaller kit I've been playing with. Non-standard colours for this- I'm not into pink spaceships...

Greetings all!
I cannot believe this is available! The Cygnus has always been a favorite of mine and have only built the MPC kit due to the fact that scratchbuilding this ship was out of the question due to its complex space framing structural system.

Ive read through this forum twice and after sitting on the fence for a year, ive decided to commit to this as a project (1/700). Ive got most of the stern on order from SWays.

I have some questions that I could not extract answers too from the forum:
1. Had there ever been a bow armature diagram available?
2. Is there a 1/700 Palomino available? If not what are you using?
3. What are people using to get the brass finish? I originally considered a matte black with drybrushing a brass color....

My parts are supposed to arrive next week.

Thanks!

First time I've seen her painted up too and she looks even better just in a coat of primer. Can't wait to see how she comes out. My collection doesn't fear the feather duster, but I have lost 9 Vipers, an F302, a Sulaco Dropship and a couple of Delta Flyers to HENRY.

Good luck with your build
1. Yes, but they're incorrect. I re-did the CAD drawings for them.
2. Yes, from me also, as well as the accompanying docking bridge, Probe Ship and all the missing antennae and upgraded parts such as the Large Basket Antennae and small observation domes.
3. Over to another member, I have over 200 unpainted models and I'm no help there.

Cheers

Marc

To Marc, I was waiting for you to step in there mate-(questions 1 and 2).
To sstinson-Regarding question 3- Painting is the easiest ever.
Start of with Vallejo UK BRONZE primer.
Fire it on, the material shapeways uses soaks paint up like a man in the middle of the desert drinks water....
After that it's just drybrushing with whatever shade of brass you like.
Re-read the forum posts for more tips.
I designed and made my own bow armature(old-school here-pencil, ruler and paper) and had the parts cut to size.

Wow buds,

That night shot is just sheer unadulterated model porn lol. Really liking the stand too and the etched plate, it's an awesome build overall with many other superlatives due and I'm glad I could help you finish her.

Is this posted somewhere? Thanks

Does anyone have a >complete< and accurate armature template for the 1/700 model?
I have all the parts and no armature to put it together. :/

Unfortunately there is no "complete" armature. You have to figure the bow out yourself. It's relatively straight-forward though- just a box.I planned mine out using some tape to hold the bow together and then shoving a ruler up the inside to take measurements. Put everything down on paper and it makes sense.
I have the laser cutting plans for the stern and main body, if that helps.

Yes, I'm just getting started. I've received my prints from shapeways (stern parts only) and I'm researching the acrylic hull and what all goes into lighting it and how the printed parts fit around it. Also still getting used to understanding the terminology for each of the parts/assemblies.
ive got the hull cut in acrylic already but still need to have the stern cut and then the front once I purchase those parts.
im really excited to get this project underway!

Good luck. Lighting is straight-forward, just run the circuit around the inside of the acrylic frame. Be sure to test the lighting before sealing it all up, also leave some slack where the wires pass through the centre hull, into the bow and stern sections. You'll understand why when you come to assemble it all.
Some parts are no longer available on shapeways-if you need them-ask.
Marc can supply the antenna, probe ship and Palomino.
I've got the top spine stl file etc.
Shapeways won't print this last part, however, but "imaterialise" will.
As for parts fitting, I found starting with the centre hull was easiest. Build your centre section, then fit the painted, printed parts over the top.
You will need to drill the stern, where it connects to the centre hull, as the connection is flimsy and droops.
Before you start adding the command tower and antenna, be sure to have a rudimentary stand made up. These parts are both very delicate and very expensive.
As the model ends up quite weighty, these parts WILL break-be warned!
With some thought you will end up with an absolute cracker of a centrepiece!
I'm always over looking at mine and the wife loves it too!
As before- good luck(post lots of pictures of your progress).:)

Ive just started my build or at least dry fitting parts and making a game plan for lighting and putting the acrylic hull together. Currently I only have the stern prints but I hope to pick up a few more bits from shapeways next month (hopefully when a promo code is offered).....

Yesterday I put an order in with shapeways and the postage was £3.78 sterling. It shows as "standard shipping".

Anyone know if the 1/350 will continue. I'm in the process of moving and no sense moving the parts I already had made if they will just end up taking space in my new home.

Re: 1/350. I messaged with Martyn about 7-8 months ago and he said he planned on getting back to it someday, but didn't have it on the radar for the immediate future. His word, "as long as I'm alive it's not dead". He also spoke at length about his frustrations with Shapeways and their prices these days though
