It's currently top heavy, to the bottle is there as a counter weight.

Picked up some guitar strings to see how they look. I believe this string is around 1/8" dia. (.105?)

Somebody please correct me-- if that guitar string is 1/8" diameter in 1/48 scale, that should be just over 3" diameter hose in real life? Regardless, it looks good. :thumbsup

I was just poking around over at StarshipModeler.com and stumbled across some detail parts you may be interested in: They have a product called "Ugly Toob" which is a neoprene cord that is very flexible to simulate hoses and such. It comes in various diameters. They also have flexible braided sleeves that are very similar. However they're out of stock on both items for now, but you might be able to find it somewhere else.

Thanks, I'll look around

Using the scrap from the X-Wing bays, I cut them up to represent the bottom visible section of the blast doors for each bay (I know, they are not too straight...)

Got them glued in place, painted and added some "snow" weathering. Wish I had better reference in the two greeblies that detail the doors. To be honest, I never noticed the doors before until I started this project.

^Thanks :)

I am beginning to think about where I might be able to obtain the droids I need for this diorama. I know that the Fine Molds X-Wings comes with R2 astromech units, but I am also going to need three Gonk Droids, Three Protocol Droids, two R3 units, one R4 and R5 units, and Two Treadwheels. My first thought was finding a 3D file and send it to shapeways.com to get the droids printed in 1/48 scale. I'll check over at Astromech.net and see what I can find, but if anyone would be able to help in this area, I'd appreciate it.

I appreciate your help Steve :cool

Hopefully you can see it, but I added some 'damaged' areas, where the ice has broken away. Also added my first attempt at making icicles too. Will be adding more to make it fuller in the second X-Wing bay.

pulled a character out of one of my 1/48 plane kits to get a sense of scale. He may end up as a Rebel Mechanic sure enough

Did you check out this Japanese build of Echo Base? Perhaps a couple of ideas from there.

Great build of yours by the way! Awe inspiring stuff there!

^link doesn't seem to work, would be very interested in seeing another build...as long as it's not made from Lego's :)

Well, I finally added the guitar string on the snowspeeder side of the hangar. I like how it looks. It will need to be painted still, and add some snow here and there, but I like how it came out. Still have to clean up all the excess glue strings and spots
