I've got one more stage of finishing to get to the final artwork still.

Man,I'm definately getting one of these! I love everything about this! I love seeing all the concept art too :love ! I don't know if people have asked yet or if I should be asking outside the JY,but any idea what price range you're shooting for when you get to that point? Or should I just shut my mouth and be patient? Kinda making a drool stain on the carpet anyways :lol .

I really don't want to make any guesses yet. Just kick back and enjoy the show for now. :)

Here's another batch of early sketches for the 2d design work-

This led to a fairly tight solution and layout of the box design.

And here's me trying to tighten up the look of my "Arkham Artifacts" logo

And an illustration of the Idol that may or may not get used in the final design.

Man... you certainly don't mess around, do you?

This is an excellent example of taking things to the next level - even doing a package design?! This is crazy cool, and I love it.

If you are going to do it, why not over do it? :)

I've got a background in design and illustration so it's just part of the fun really.

Wait till you see the final bit that's going in the package!

Nick

This is incredible! I love all the reference pics and concept art. It's cool to see all the thought that goes into the process, and the end result is looking fantastic.

Makes me want to go read some Lovecraft!

I have been following this thread from the beginning and am seriously impressed with every step of this. Lemme tell you, when this run goes ahead, I am *so* there.

I only came across this thread a couple of days ago... Holy smokes! Nick, this is a pitch-perfect job you are doing, from conception through the research to your aesthetic stance (cool-looking, biologically founded, extremely loyal to the source info available from Lovecraft's text) and on to the execution.

As a life-long Lovecraft fan I am seriously appreciative of the design and the craft you've put in to this. There aren't that many things that I see and think, "I *must* have that," but it is certainly the case with this, so I'm also grateful that you will be offering a run.

My hat is off to you. Very well done, sir.

I will be enthusiastically following this.

Yeah, this one is definitely for the hardcore literary Lovecraft fans. Really tried to get all the details that other artists seem to miss. The main one being that he is big, fat, and weird. A gelatinous beast that hasn't moved for millenia.

Too often you see stuff like this-
cthulhuFB2.jpg

Cthulhu shouldn't have thumbs. Cthulhu shouldn't have sweet biceps. Cthulhu shouldn't have angry eyebrows.

He should be otherworldly and like in the description "vaguely anthropoid" at best. Not a bodybuilder wearing an octopus mask and bat wings.

I will say that cthulhu representations have been getting better in the last couple years. Seems like everybody has finally noticed the 3 eyes grouping in the Lovecraft drawings.

Lovecraft's universe is indifferent to us humans. No room for angry eyebrows in indifference.

Thanks for "getting" what I'm trying to nail.

Nick

Couldn't have said it better. Cthulhu is from another dimension and not a muscular superhero with tentacles.

Your sculpt is perfect!

Truly a fantastic sculpt! I collect cthulhu idols and *must* have one of these. Please let me know when they become available.

Haha! Exactly!

You're nailing it, man. You really are. "Doing it right," as they say.

I need this. Everything about it looks amazing, from the sculpt itself to the base to the box. Any idea at all when they will be available and what the price range may be?
