POTC - PIRATA CODEX - The Pirate's Code

Hi everyone,
For the last couple of years I have been working on
re-creating the POTC PIRATA CODEX. As much as I admired the original prop, I found that the overwhelming size of the actual prop to be too impractical to have around.
So I have attempted to re-create the Codex on a smaller scale
as if one that a pirate might have carried himself.

The text is directly from the original prop.
The cover is Hardback w/ pig skin.
The text, graphs, drawings and calligraphy
are all done by hand.
The paper is authentic Tapa Parchment made from Coconut Palms.

So for my fellow Pirates,
here are a few pics. I hope to add some later as well.

I look forward to comments, suggestions, questions etc.

KEEP TO THE CODE

Fantastic job!(y)thumbsup. How are you going to display it?

Thank you, Thank you.

I sent one to my son along with a flintlock and several
other pirate theme items. He has his prominently displayed
in his cubical (minus the flintlock of course).

I have my copy at home on my office desk with my POTC
replicas.

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Here's a few more pics...

She's beautiful. :)

This is one I've wanted to do as well but never got around to. How many pages did you end up with?

There are 40 + pages.

As each Codex is made by hand, no two books are exactly alike
(except the Codes, or guidelines as it were).

Certainly awesome work made even more impressive by the fact it's hand made. :thumbsup

Might have to have a crack at this myself sometime! Until then I'll just look at your pics and smile. :)

That is superb, a thing of beauty arrrrrrr.

Is the text available anywhere?

Wait, like I need another project on my To Do list!

That is really impressive! It looks really great. You have a great attention to detail
How did you see what text was on the original prop?

That is awesome!

I wouldn't even know where to look for all the texts ...

I always love handmade stuff, it is sooooo much more "authentic" ...

Thank you everyone for the kind comments.

What I had hoped to do was to re-create the Codex
using what materials were available to a Pirate of
that time (well, as much as possible). That's why I went with the Pig Skin
for the cover.

As for the paper...
I originally started out with paper parchment but was extremely unhappy
with the results. It was while I was researching ancient documents that the thought of using papyrus came to me. I decided to make the Codex parchment from coconut palm tapa. The process of turning tapa into parchment takes about a week,
but I really like the results.

I'm adding a pic of the Black Pearl today. I took this photo myself and was so happy to have had the opportunity.

This is a very good job, but don't you think it is a little bit to small? The Codex from the third movie was way bigger.. i think it was something like A2 or a little bit smaler..

Ya, the original prop was around 2' X 3' and weighed so much that Keith Richards couldn't even lift it. In fact, it was because of that, that original prop was gutted and much of the content removed for the purpose of the scene.

But as I said in my original post, I felt that it was size of that prop that made it prohibitive for me to have around the house. I like having my Cutlass and Pistol and Letter of Marque and Wig and Maps and Costume etc. But a book THAT LARGE was just too much.

That's when the idea of having a Codex that an individual might have in his
trunk would be better than the book for the Brethren Court. Savvy?

I have this book and it is fantastic! Paper, hand witting and all contained extra are really great! Congrats!
