Netflix Recommendations Thread

I watched the season finally of OA and I was so completely let down. In fact, I let out a "what the $&@!?" but not because I was confused. I was so pissed that I wasted so much time on a series that was so underwhelming and unsatisfying. I went and read some reviews and there is either extreme love for the show or lots of hate, no really in between.

Just curious... why did you feel unsatisfied?

Well I get that you were underwhelmed... you'd said so already.

My question was why specifically you felt that way.

Talking about there being alot of build up certainly drives home the point that you were disappointed, but it doesn't do anything to explain *why* you were disappointed.

*What didn't you like?

*Were you expecting the story to move in a different direction than it did? What was that direction?

*Were there questions that you had which you felt were answered in a way that didn't satisfy?

In short, I'm asking for specifics.

After I finished up Orange is the New Black, someone recommended Wentworth to me--another show about a female prison. I had to give up on it after the first episode. I don't know if my hearing is going, or if it is the sound mix, or just the REALLY thick accents, but I could barely understand anything the characters were saying.

So I'm trying out Shameless. I don't know how far I will go with this one. It's a dramedy about this alcoholic guy with his 6 kids--very R rated. The show is not that bad, but I just find it hard to believe that a family who are as dysfunctional as these people could be getting as much sex as they are. Being a single guy who is currently not getting any--this kind of stuff just depresses me. In the first episode alone there are like 6 sexual encounters. Seriously, even the kids are getting more sex than most grown ups I know. Not sure where this series came from.

Shameless US rocks... love the show. was reupped for another season (maybe 2?) on Showtime.

I'm about 6 episodes into it now. Yes, it is a good show-- I am enjoying it. It's just seems to have so much gratuitous sex in it, that I am just finding myself FF'ing through a lot of it. Trust me, I am no prude when it comes to sex scenes, but most of the sex just really has no reason to be there other than to just show some boobs and naked man ass.

I'm all for the premise and plot of the show, but do I really need to "see" 15 year old girls giving bjs, or a 14 year old boy having gay sex with an older man? You'll take note on the quotation marks around "see". Obviously, they are not really showing kiddie porn on the show. They are just highly implying it. Sure, sure, I know kids in real life have sex, that is not what is bothering me (again, as they don't really show that). It's just the sex in the show really has no bearing really on any of the plot. It's just like the producer's say "Okay, we've got to have three or four sex scenes in every episode, regardless." And with the grown ups- yeah- they show everything pretty much.

I'm just tired of seeing that next door neighbor guy's butt every episode.

But again, I am enjoying the show. Not really trying to rag on it.

I don't remember if I suggested this or nor, but "Better Off Ted".

If you want the perspective of German Occupied France from a French Café owner who is reluctantly hiding two British airmen, hiding stolen artwork 'for' the Germans, collaborating against his will with the French resistance all while having an affair with both of his waitresses in the British slapstick comedy style...watch 'Allo Allo' :)

Anyone watching Wynonna Earp? I've just started and I'm 2 episodes in so far and it's . . . interesting so far. I'm not quite sold on the show just yet, it has kind of a(n unintentional) cheesy vibe to which I'm finding a bit distracting. I'm also getting kind of a Jessica Jones vibe from Wynonna as well, but that may have more to do with the fact that the actress is a brunette and dresses similarly to JJ. I think I'm going to give it until ep. 5 before I decide whether I want to continue with the series or not.

I caught a couple weeks ago or so when I was bored and I really enjoyed, it was kind of a tear jerker in the end which was the last thing that I ever expected of a zombie flick.

Yeah, my expectations for zombie flicks are usually pretty low so this was a nice surprise. Kind of had a World War Z vibe but on a smaller scale, which is good.

The Clown is a decent horror flick. Went into it not expecting much but I was surprised. Guy puts on an old clown suit for his son's birthday. Suit turns out to be cursed and guy is slowly transformed into a child eating clown demon. It's actually pretty grim at times.

Just finished watching the first season of "Anne with an E" and loved every second of it, probably my favorite netflix original series to date, the young actress playing Anne just nails the role.

I also enjoyed "13 Reasons Why" a lot more than i thought i would, i normally don't like those teen drama's but i thought this was an interesting premise.

Netflix has really hit the mark for me in this past year with shows like Stranger Things and Anne with an E, i also cant wait for the upcomming Dark Crystal and The Withcer series.

The Keepers: Making a Murderer mixed with Spotlight.

Really dug the hell out of this show and really reinforced my belief in the Groucho Marx quote, "I don't want to be a part of any club that'd be happy to have me."

"Stranger than Fiction".
I never thought I'd care strongly about the fate of a Will Farrel character, but this film made me.An intelligent, well acted, beautifully unpredictabe and cleverly scripted dark comedy of the kind that so rarely gets made these days. And it only took me ten years and a rainy Bank Holiday to find it. Thank you Netflix.

The Netflix original movie, War Machine, starring Brad Pitt and Anthony Michael Hall, was fantastic. It captured the Army's Counterinsurgency operations and all the political red tape perfectly. Yes, it was a comedy, but having COIN being such a big part of my job as a Civil Affairs guy, it's spot-on.
