Ready Player One

I am so excited for this one, this pretty much sums up everything I liked and loved in my teens :) Especialy I like that the DMC finaly get another kind of big movierole after all those years. Just hope this doesn't affect the price on a reallife car as I still am looking for one over here.
It seems to have already affected the value of "Iron Giant" toys. Glad I got everything they had to offer in '99, and the Mondo.

Just watched the trailer, this is the first I’ve heard of this. Can’t believe the time
Machine is in this!

Anyone give me a quick crash course of what this movie is about?

Basically a new matrix?

Uhh... I guess? not really?

Essentially? Billionaire designs "perfect" VR simulator, dies and sets up his dough for grabs via a scavenger/easter egg hunt in-game. Kid from shantytown goes for it and nearly dies by Evil Mega Corporation.

Go.

Step 1: Lay out timeline (above) neatly on ground,
Step 2: Unload 3 - 5 train cars of 80's (not exclusively) pop culture on top of said timeline
Step 3: Pick up time-culture-line and bind into book
Step 4: Enjoy said book and make into movie.
Step 5: [REDACTED]

It's a fantastic (both definitions) book that's very easy to read. The Audiobook is read by Wil Wheaton and is equally good. Very excited for the movie. Hope this helps!

The trailers are hitting all of the right notes, but there's such a high point that they have to hit and I still am not convinced that it's even possible, not if you threw all the money in the world at it. I'm really worried that I'm going to be disappointed when the film actually hits because the expectations have to be unbelievably high.

thanks tiny, im gonna have to check it out

Or, to sum it up, it's like Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, only Willy Wonka is a video game designer, and his Golden Ticket contest is held inside of his greatest video game creation and the clues to solve the riddles involves his obsession with 1980s pop culture. It's a very addictive read (it took me two days to read the whole book, and I never wanted to put it down).

I would recommend the book, I just read about 5 chapters every night before bed it was and quick and good read.
I too had heard about the book, then the movie.
But this will definitely be one that everyone loves the book, but has to accept the movie.
If you are an early eighties kid or teen you definitely need to read it.

I know its purely speculation at this point, but, during the last few seconds of the "Come With Me" trailer, does anyone else think that the central spire of Castle Anorak is... shorter?

LOL, definitely not a new Matrix. It's like the Candy Crush to the Matrix's Tetris... Ready Player One (the novel) was basically nostalgia porn. Just non stop lists of 80's pop culture references...

I actually suspect that Castle Anorak is actually the Temple of Syrinx. I mean, in the OASIS, your house could be anything, even multiple rooms from different places in one exterior. And that Castle certainly doesn't fit the normal castle design. And since we know Halliday was a Rush fan, it'd make sense he'd have the exterior of his castle be the Temple of Syrinx.

I should have referenced this image. My excitement was tuned to the large flat... Altar? I'm calling it an altar because now I don't want it to not be the Temple, although I have yet to turn up a concrete image from a known Rush source that resembles this, In the middle of the main building. It still looks cut off, and the shield is still up, so Supply Droid number 03 has yet to roll up to the level 99 mage and blast him into oblivion with the AFIB. Darn.

For a second I got the glimmer of hope that it would be the Black Fortress from Krull, alas, 'tis not. I can't imagine that this structure is not at least, reminiscent of something else. It's too important of a location to not have a reference to something. I'll continue researching this in my spare time.

I wasn't saying it was the Temple of Syrinx. I was saying I suspect it might be, or at least Halliday's interpretation of it. I could very well be wrong in my assumption.

It's Cool! I know, I just want it to be that now. If not the Temple, I want it to be a reference to something. I'm just disappointed that I've yet to spot Johnny (or evidence thereof) in the trailers. As his involvement is one of the biggest minor plot points I want to see in the whole movie.

Well, he's owned by Columbia Tri-Star, which owns the Ghostbusters. But then again, Christine was a Columbia/Tri-stat production. So, he may/may not be in the film.

An excellent point! I had forgotten Christine was owned by them... I need to watch that movie again... Anyways, that does make me hopeful, but in the mean time they need to release the "World in my Eyes" and "Pure Imagination" covers for purchase/download. Also, does anyone have a clean cover of the "Take On Me?" I love the orchestral blend they've done.

I've found both "World in My Eyes" and "Pure Imagination" on Amazon! Here are the links to the correct versions:

"World in My Eyes" : https://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_s...ld+in+my,digital-music,139&crid=254NFRRFBAR3C

Pure Imagination : https://smile.amazon.com/Pure-Imagi...1&keywords=ghostwriter+music+Pure+Imagination

Still looking for that Instrumental mash-up of Take On Me, but grateful I found these.
