Re: Johnny Depp / Jack Sparrow Bust WIP

Thanks again guys. I should have some time to work on this on the weekend and put some ears on him. I'll keep updating with pics so please let me know if you find something that needs to be improved.

Re: Johnny Depp / Jack Sparrow Bust WIP

Thanks for all the great feedback guys.
I had a bit of time today to work on the ears and shape the top of the head, so here are a couple of pics:

Still a lot of refining to do, so stay tuned. . .

Re: Johnny Depp / Jack Sparrow Bust WIP

There are 5 or 6 members that truly just make me have WTF moments when I open their threads...

You are 100% on that list! :)

Now get back to work so we can all live vicariously through your stuff! :p

Seriously though, can't WAIT to see this finished up. May be the best sparrow bust yet! And there are some GREAT ones! :)

Re: Johnny Depp / Jack Sparrow Bust WIP

Wow, thanks again for the compliments. I'm glad this has been getting a good response, it always gives me the boost to keep going.
Since I had a wig and beads, I figure I could post a pic with it on the sculpt (still need the sail needle :().
It's a bit loose, since I didn't want to disrupt the clay, but it helps me get an idea of what it will look like towards the end.

Re: Johnny Depp / Jack Sparrow Bust WIP

Just decided to drop in here, I must say, that bust looks scarily human! To me it looks nothing like Jack Sparrow, but I have no ability to 'see' the finished piece, maybe thats why I suck at art. Either way, with all the photoshop extras I can clearly see that this is going to turn out great! So, just thought I'd offer my compliments! I'll periodically check in to see progress!

Wow!! He really is looking amazing at this stage.

I have one word of critique... I think with the smirk the right side of the nostril wall needs to come up a tad. It would flow better with the pose. At the moment the nose area seems to have the pose of a relaxed face. make any sense?

Anyways... hope my 2 cents was worth while ;)

Thanks lukeforester1, yeah it's a bit difficult sometimes to imagine the finished piece, that's why it's good to have good reference pictures to work with of the actor without all the makeup etc.
Here's a quick photoshop with some of the facial hair and a bit of eye makeup:

Howard - That makes perfect sense, I'll get to that on my next sitting. I'll also bulk up the cheek a bit on the sides to flesh it out.

Thanks for the critiques and keep them coming, I can take it :D

Yeah, that's the stuff! Howard that's what makes you so good. The nose would be a bit flared to the side.
Looking great.

Re: Johnny Depp / Jack Sparrow Bust WIP

Wow. Just wow. I have been collecting parts to do a Sparrow display costume that I wasn't planning to have a head on.

If these become available I may have changed my mind.
