Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - NEW SUIT DONE Pics on p.17

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

I made the chaplain helmet, yes. After the sculpt was finished, I had a problem with the resin curing and didn't get a good pull until the third casting. The bronze one was one of my rejects. Here's the good one:

In other news, I've received an email from GW and, while it doesn't say I need to stop this project, it does seem that I should add the following:

This project is completely unofficial and in no way endorsed by Games Workshop Limited.

So there's that.

Oh no I hope they don't ***** about my genestealer/broodlord build. Whatever I'm gonna pay some escorts to wear genestealer costumes at next con so I can have a full squad when in broodlord costume.

no joke, its a fan project, they need to calm themselves a bit. should worry about decreasing sales figures rather than the awesomeness that is this thread!!

excellent stuff as usual!!!

SSSSWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTT build, this will look amazing when finished, now where's that subscription button?

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

Outstanding work. I'm watching with interest. It would look great as display; wearable is just amazing! I just hope you do it right, and paint it Dark Angels green. :)

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

Huge 40k fan. Been playing since Rouge Trader days. Your build is sick and I am looking forward to seeing it finished.

What Chapter will you be painting it?

Cheers,
Robert

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

We're holding off on deciding what chapter it'll be until we can find someplace to buy enough of those tiny little bottles of Citadel Colours paint to cover the whole thing.

Not a lot of progress today. Probably because we were screwing around with the pieces in the workshop:

I went ahead and tried on the pieces too, if only to reaffirm the plan for how it will fit when it's all together:

I'm still thinking it'll work:

Otherwise, all I did was a few minutes worth of work smoothing out the chest some more:

Stay tuned for more...

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

When its finished be sure to disply it with the C&D letters as a offical confirmation of how close to the original it is :)

For the paint could you not take a GM bottle to a custom paint mixer and get them to make you a big batch ?

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

If memory serves, Ghadrack had a beaky helmet all painted up in the colors of the Rainbow Warriors chapter. Looked pretty sharp...

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

I just wanted to say this build is pretty damned cool. There are some style details I'd differently, but it certainly gets the beefiness of the marines down, and anything Warhammer-related is awesome in my book.

Not sure if I'm crazy about the whole seeing out of the neck part, though. I've seen marine suits done with lifted shoes that are basically just stilts you move with your feet, which lets you have the awesome factor of taking off the helmet.

Also, the shoulder pads have a smaller version under them, which raises the pad a bit.

And of course, don't forget to load that baby up with details, purity seals, and any other insignia you can cram on there, especially if it's gonna be a Chaplain suit. A breechcloth made of parchment covered in prayers or a book strapped to the shoulder pad, Chaplains let you go pretty nuts with their detail bitz.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

I decided to forgo the awesome factor of taking off the helmet in favor of the awesome factor of being able to bend my knees and elbows.

For the test pics above, the shoulder pad was just stuck on with a piece of pink duct tape.

Trust me, this will look much better as time goes on.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

So the elbow is mostly faired out:

The heel needs a bit more work:

The toe too:

The shins and thighs are nearly done. I still have a long way to go on the chest, but I'm starting to think we might have a couple of these together in time for Halloween.

Stay tuned...
