My Han in Carbonite panel upgrades 23 Nov 2013

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

Wow! Nice work Marcus! :thumbsup

But if it gets any more accurate, you'll risk thawing Han out of your HIC! :lol

Aaarrgghh... grumble, grumble..... now I'll have to do the same to the 2nd Hero panel on my HIC :unsure Stop making it harder to finish! :lol

Cheers,

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

There isn't enough reference material to do the ESB version accurately unfortunately.

I'm confused -- you did a non-lit top left (facing it) panel. However, in the scene where Fett is escorting Solo through the hallways you see that panel has a green lit panel. Where can we see it without the lit panel?

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

They had two versions of the block, or at least the panels on the block, the one you see in the hall escort and the freeze chamber (although we never see the left side of the block in the chamber) but there is no glowing panel in Jabbas palace on that side.

Only because we can see the block that had been displayed on the tour circuit, that the upper left panel is blocked off with greeblee panels like the other four on that side.

Although not seen on screen there are publicity shots of the block in the carbon freeze chamber. No left side hero panel.

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

Here are screen caps of ESB from a HD copy. You can see the green panel in these. So they swapped the panel out when they filmed the scenes, and the shots without the green panel are "behind the scenes"?

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

Who knows. Maybe the shots with the green screen were insert shots filmed later to make it look more functional.

Either way there just isn't enough reference material to do an accurate ESB block so I did the RoTJ/exhibition version.

It's also possible that they flipped the image left/right for some reason in those shots, who knows! Do whatever makes you happy :)

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

You don't seem to be following me here: I have replicated the RoTJ/Exhibition carbonite block as accurately as I could. I have not replicated the ESB block.

But those are black, and you painted yours silver!

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

No it isn't flipped. The detailing is quite different. For example, it doesn't have the row of red/white lights and it doesn't have the knurled knobs.

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

Some notable differences between this panel and the real hero panel on the other side.

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

Super job there Marcus. Looks great.

I got my clips too mate. Cheers! Now I just need to cast myself a HIC before winter :rolleyes and order some more Volvo panels.

Re: WIP: Han in Carbonite (panels)

Looking way sharp there Marcus, you did this prop justice. I was looking at the publicity pic's you posted and even between those two shots the second panels are different configurations. Anything goes back then.

I love the different decals there. I'd add those to my next decal run if anyone had better pictures of them.

Its funny, I've been restoring muscle cars since I was in high school and there are purists out there that want it just like it came off the factory floor, but back in the 70's things sometime's did not go by the books and there were equipment and trim oddities happening all the time. Restoring props reminds me of how sometime things aren't always what they seem.
