It began life as this: http://www.amazon.com/Kids-Army-Lights-Sounds-Machine-Pistol/dp/B00AFK01YK/ref=cm_cr-mr-title

I took it apart, cut off things that weren't supposed to be there (like the non-movable hammer and the huge sight), and added a few other things (the upper barrel, made from audio cable connectors; the lower barrel and second trigger, both from a revolver from a dollar store; and halves of a bottle of hand sanitizer for covering up the fake bullets), put it back together, and painted it.

Figuring out how to simulate transparency on the handle was tricky. I had painted the entire handle silver, and first, I wanted to use transparent paint for glass, but I couldn't find any in the right color. I ultimately decided to try going over it with orange and yellow-orange Sharpies and then putting on a few layers of Mod Podge to seal it and make it shiny. I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Hope you guys enjoy the stuff I do. I have a 7 year old so they idea to work on nerf guns just occured to me about 6 months ago. I now have a shop where I work on orders and projects - usually about 5-7 hours a day after work and on weekends. It's never going to make me rich, but if it provides me a fun hobby and some extra cash for the family, I'm a happy man :)

just a little .99 cent toy grenade. I liked the cast and thought it would look cool painted up!

Nerf Longshot - Modded up! :)

Dang man! JohnsonArms, love your creativity. Good stuff man!

I picked up a Nerf gun at our annual neighborhood garage sale.

First time attempting a repaint and I'm pleased. Done with rattle can black and silver, hit the black with steel wool and finished the silver with several black washes. I sanded most of the text off, leaving just the Nerf logo.

WOW!!!

That looks amazing! What kind of prep did you do? Any sanding before painting?

Maybe a Dremel next time to get rid of the Nerf logo?

All in all that looks great!!! Well done sir.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Very little sanding prior to paint -just enough to rough up the surface.

You should have done a tutorial for this one. It looks great. I'm sure a few of us would love a very affordable Blade Runner pistol.

Thank you very much! I'm sorry I don't get out to post much anymore, but by the looks of things I've left the thread in good hands while I'm gone :) I hope it gets you inspired to have a go at it, yourself!

I think a trip to the toy section at Walmart or Target this weekend is in order...I have plenty of paint laying around that could be put to use.

Not Nerf, but this is a toy blaster I just completed.

FYI: This blaster was modified 10 years ago to reshape the rear section and add the extension arms. However those arms were thin styrene.

My recent mod replaced the arms with steel, the screw holes were filled in, the raised text was removed, and detail paint and weathering was added.

Lights and sounds are still functional.

I also did some finished work and paint detailing to a hyper firm type E-11 to make it look realistic.

You can see before and after.

The AR-3V Project

First of all I want to thank Johnson arms & of course JoaTrash for the inspiration.
this is my latest, built over a non-functioning Nerf chassis($2 find at Goodwill!)
Obviously this is not "Vera" but even "the best gun known to man"
has got to have knockoffs right ?
I kept "accounts" for the build:
$66 in parts
143 hours in labor!
Thoughts & comments greatly appreciated
I have WIP pics if anyone is interested

Nothing major.

This was a squirt gun I put aside many years ago because I thought it would be fun to paint up and make into a holdout blaster. While going through some items i had stored away, I found it. I figured I take sometime off and on throughout the day to do a quick paint job. I'm giving this to my son.

Here is what i started off with. the items pictured where possible greebles I had that I might utilize. At the time I was not sure which ones.

IMG_0036.jpg

The raised text has been sanded off, the body filled with foam, the tip of the barrel removed, water plug removed, trigger and trigged spacer removed, and plastic inner tube removed. This is what I decided on for greeble placement. Note that on the finished item, I removed the the hemispheres from the handle but I did keep a couple of large ones on the other side.

Here it is with the finished paint job. Nothing fancy.

Here it is next to the battle droid blaster for size comparison,

Dang, that's sweet. In the countless eBay searches I've gone for toy guns to customize, I've always been seeing that cap gun come up, and I thought it had a cool design but never thought of a way to use it.

You definitely changed the trigger guard. Did you change the grip too? It looks different from the unmodified version, although I suppose that could just be because of the different trigger guard.

Yes I changed the trigger guard & the grip in order to make it fit my hand,it is a kids toy after all!
I had to extend the grip by about an inch & a half which gave me room to add the lanyard ring,I also added the "reload/ramrod"(an old door hing pin!) to the bottom of the barrel & a "greeblie"(from my stash of "things I might use one day" AKA my garage!) to the right side and replaced the "ring sight".The body plates are built up styrene sheet. Then I filled holes, primered with black & dry brushed the "brass" & "steel".there are about 8-10 coats of paint. Finally I sealed
the whole thing with about half a can of spray clear satin . took less than a week from start to finish
