I have a thread on that here.

the big thing is, I use the same brand of paints and let each coat dry to the point it's no longer tacky.

The wash of grime is a mix of enamel and water that's allowed to sit in the cracks and detail then blotted to lift the drips but not clean it 100%. I'll do that a couple times with various shades of black, sometimes with drops of red or orange added.

Here's one I'm working on now it has both AR's removed and the cylinder swings all the way out for looks, hehe. I'll post the final photos soon!

Hey guys, I think I'll be able to post a bit more here soon now that my shop move and the holidays are over for another year..Con season you say? Oh dear..hehe I promise to get back to posting more regularly, I think my Note 2 is going to be a lot better for mobile posting than the iPhone 4 is. Custom requested MC mkVI helmet by CerealKiller up in Canada! Very detailed stuff!

Foam weapon tests (this was a nerf mace). It's pretty durable even looking like this Should make for some cool renfaire stuff

guess this is worth a first post. 1st time modding a nerf gun, the paint scheme matches a mandolorian merc i did for a commission for a friend. had a lot of fun painting it.

Hello all.
Wow I have seen some amazing paint work here.
Johnson Arms , thanks for starting this thread and helping many to try their hand at paint modding Nerf's.
Thanks also to everyone who has posted photos or gave advice.
I have been wanting to make a Nerf Vera and am REALLY motivated now.:cool
I bought a box of 8 Nerfs on Ebay.
Included in the box was a Recon ( my Vera ) , 2 Nitefinders, a Firefly,a Maverick and a couple others I dont have names for.
The Recon will be my Vera and the Nitefinders,Maverick and Firefly I plan on Steampunking.
I have already started on the Recon and will post pictures and a writeup when finished.
Everybody keep up the great work and continue to post pictures please.:thumbsup

Here's another WIP pic of the new Nerf Elite Roughcut 2x4 - Steampunk baby!

Used my 3D printer to make some of the parts, it's almost done, just need some sort of gauge on the other side...

PS - nice work once again Brian, scary GI Joe face, you look like the long lost brother to a guy I teach with, not sure if that's a good thing or not =p

Rob: Haha, that my "I don't like the cold" face Very nice work on the Roughcut, it does have a great shape for some retro themes! I have a couple that I'll have time to work on soon, one I'm thinking should be a MIB chrome, hehe

More photos soon, I'm just trying to get a big order under control and I'll have time again for posting all the fun stuff flowing through the shop!

Mr. Leaf: I'm glad you found the thread, I hope it will contribute to ideas for your projects. Good luck with Vera!

The Firefly is absolutely underestimated when it comes to optical modding.

You can make some kickass guns with that thing.

@JohnsonArms - Awesome work on the Steampunk rifle & Longcolt! I love your Nerf mods but I'm really excited to see your awesome paintjobs on others' props!

Now I know who to go to when I want some props painted/weathered up :love

I agree.
The Firefly has awsome detail that looks great painted.
Soon as I saw the Firefly Nerf I loved it.
When I found out its name and saw how it lights up when you shoot it I had to have it.
I dont recall who posted this but the work is outstanding.:thumbsup
The two color braided hose really stands out.

I cant wait to start on my Firefly.

You'll have to excuse me if I don't shed a tear for the guy in FLORIDA when he says it's cold. Try Vancouver in January, cold and wet - crappy painting environment for about 6 months, thank god for the spray booth at work :lol

Thought I'd throw in as Ive been lurking and getting ideas! Everyone here is such an inspiration!:love
I am going to do an 18 shot Nerf Maverick in a SteamPunk style.
First off I wanted to have space between the barrels like a Gatling gun, yet I wanted the base of the drum sealed, so I ended up with this...

I also bought these cool laser cut parts off a gentleman on eBay... I decided I wanted them to have an etched Colt/SteamPunk over embellished look so I have these.. These will be flat black with the scrolling drybrushed a bronze color.

I am happy with this and will dry brush them when all three are done.

I also love the way the plastic on the Nerf cuts and carves! A little time with an Xacto blade gave me this trigger.

I am seriously thinking of cutting out the hand grip and putting in hand carved and stained wood...
I'll post more as I get more done!

For you guys that mod Nerfs, I'm looking at buying an air eraser(sand blaster) for stripping my guns before painting. Any of you have experience using one of those stripping your guns?
