CG ships can look cartoonish in movies so this "hybrid", using a real scale model and CG propellers is a real eye-catcher.

There's still hope than one day scale models will find their way back into movies than pure CG.

That's pretty amazing! thanks for sharing. I'd love a "how to" video. It's amazing how accessible CG graphics are these days.

This intrigues me. I'm working on building scale models at the moment, and I'm worried about how terrible they will look. It's sort of inspiring to see how well they can turn out...

That's pretty cool what you can do with a basic software program.I've always felt that a combination of utilizing both technologies yields the best results.CG is just anothger tool to me,and films that completely reley on 100% CG I think really suffer because it is near impossible to maintain realisim.Like you said,it looks cartoony unless that is really the look the director/film is aiming for.
