Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber

The screws I got at the hardware store were zinc plated so whether you wanted it or not, it'll oxidize eventually.:p

do you know what the thread is on your Mystery Chunk set screw? Just thinking ahead for installing mine, I usually get a bolt/screw with the same threading & use it to ghetto tap the hole :lol

I'm working on the weathering of my V2 and I think the clamp on the reference pictures doesn't has the same position on every picture.

To help making clear what I mean:

This is what I see. Does anybody see the same.

Just make sure to use the knurled cone knob as reference point when you could see it on the pictures you are using.

Are there any pictures of the rear side of the saber?
I can find only this and I can't see the whole "booster" section.

And that is my progress so far:

wow your weathering is precise :) looks like you're going for how it look now in the recent pics, looking good

I took my lead from the few ROTJ pics but mostly ended up just doing a general weathering job, admire the work you're putting in

as far as I know the clamp is just on there with no tabs or fastening so is just free to spin around, As a result I think you see it in a different position in just about every picture

Luke the Belter
Yeah, man! That is some serious Dented Helmet-style dedication to the weathering. Great job so far. And to elaborate on what Country Paul said, the clamp isn't held in place by the tabs like it would be on a Graflex so that makes sense that it's position would shift from picture to picture.

I just drilled the hole and forced the screw in on mine. I haven't got anything to tap it with; I just used the screw. In a conversation with Trooper_trent, if I remember correctly, he said he used a 7/32 tap but cut it down by a like a 1/4 to get a nice fit. I know that I used a 16/64 bit to drill my hole. To convert this awful way of measuring to something more precise and understandable, in metric, that would mean that we both used something around 5 and 6 mm to drill/tap the hole.

You might want to talk to Trooper_Trent about this over me, I was so much more crude about the whole matter of putting my saber together.:p

using a tap chart, the pilot whole should be 7/32 for a 1/4-20 thread. But i don't have a tap, lol. so I used a 7/32 bit and punched all the way through to the hollow center. It was too snug to get the screw started so I then used a 1/4" bit and went in only a little bit, to widen the mouth. That let me get the bolt down into the hole a little. Then I just used pliers and torqued it down. The aluminum is soft enough that you can do it fairly easily.

I think I'm going to have to try and find someone in my area with a machine shop... I don't think I'm brave enough to try some of these approaches!

I figured I'd show off my Anakin Starkiller build and share some of my solutions for securing the rod inside the hilt as well as my "mystery chunk".

First, some photos:

Here is my 5/16" bore shaft collar. I wanted to use this because then it holds my saber together mechanically a la a set screw.

Mystery Chunk!

This is a 1/4-20 Square Head Set Screw.

Now for the saber all together!

I painted the saber with Krylon Satin Black and then spent about 3 hours sitting at my computer, looking at photo reference with sand paper and my exacto blade. I tried to match as much of the paint job as seen in the Star Wars Celebration. It should also be noted that I put an 1" D-Ring on my saber as well, because I felt the one that came with it was a little too small.

In case anyone was interested, here are the links to the Shaft Collar and set screw I ordered from McMasterCarr.

So here is what I get for the booster section on the saber.
Out of all pictures we have.

For those who can't wait for the stencils (like me ;) )

Where did you bought the clamp?

clamps are a hard thing right now... Roy (wannawanga.com) sells the levers, I don't know if he has any left but it wouldn't hurt shooting him a pm asking if he has left overs. I've been on the hunt for a clamp for awhile now..

Roman is going to have clamps galore for his Obis, Graflexs, etc. He has already said he will have extra clamps as well it's just everyone is going ape crazy with Graflexs, Obis, and Luke V2 so he is buried. I think his machine shop may need therapy :)

He stated in his Graflex Replica thread he will have clamps with Logos.

My clamp is a genuine graflex clamp I purchased off eBay back in June for about half the cost of my full graflex I own. I probably paid too much but I don't regret it. It fits my V2 perfectly.
