Bengrim09 Rey’s concept saber competition build

I had an idea in my head on what I thought Rey would build for a new saber. I put aside the thought of her using Luke’s old saber parts or even her staff, I was thinking of a traditional hand held saber, completely scavenged parts, with the idea of a new but traditional design for a light saber ( also trying to keep away from the iconic look of Luke’s, Vader’s and Obi-wan’s )

i started with some 40mm chrome plated brass sink tube

I found an old brass control valve that nearly fit the end

I filed down down the bottom edge by 2mm to allow to valve to fit just inside the tube

I found an an old filler cap/lid (blue) from an industrial bottle of cleaning fluid that I thought would make the emitter end, the white plastic part I will use for the inside of the emitter
work station still looking clean !!

Placed together I was getting the look I wanted

I had had some stainless steel tube, about 50-60mm dia that I’ve been using to make clamps with, so I made a clamp

I wanted this saber to have a double belt hanger as a single hanger would swing to much with all the running she’s been doing, I’m also currently designing a belt and thigh wrap for this saber
here is how I built the double belt hangers
some more stainless steel tube I had left over, I added a little kick for the emitter end and kept it straight for the pommel end
3AC9EF66-257E-4956-B212-45C62766A062.jpegEE4351AC-9AFE-46F2-B4DB-527BC2340A69.jpegBCBCCF02-D312-45BA-99AA-72019D131A34.jpeg4B37B86A-0B3B-44DC-8192-76FB88C00EB3.jpegB37C4F83-1BB2-4642-8EB1-01D6AE8C7CA5.jpeg
I added rivets to hold them in place
4404C3E4-13A9-460D-9072-3784DDAD8B4E.jpeg

I tried a couple of designs for the handle as I wanted to keep away from the traditional T track, this was my final decision

I had to then come up with a design to hold it all together
8mm threaded bar with nuts and spacers to keep it all central, I also drilled and threaded the end for the handle to fix to, I also glued an 8mm nut in the emitter end for the 8mm bar that would allow me to pull it all together.
fixed together it was slowly becoming my vision

Work station now messed up !!

The emitter end was a white extension piece from the shower parts and a brass nozzle from a small pen propane burner, they all fit nicely over the threaded bar

Now for a few greeblies on the emitter, this part was from a seagull camera I had pulled apart in the past, I drilled 3mm holes around it to make it more visually pleasing, I also added some rescaled Darth Vader reveal mask bits around the top of the emitter but I’ve no pics of that process but you will clearly see them at the end

I also added some Vader reveal bits I had onto the clamp, one on either side
43DE33B7-B2F6-4DDE-A21D-A0B86D6016D6.jpegD3B5B189-7E0E-4959-A692-7D592E9E454F.jpeg
Once everything was ready for paint I painted the clamp and emitter, but I had to do it twice as I scratched them to much when I was reassembled them, I was going to leave it scratched and give it a weathered look but it just didn’t look right

Built then pulled apart read to be painted, everything nearly ready before fore I put it together

Bits painted
A710C7C9-0972-4B5E-A5D1-B7A5203ABF8D.jpeg

I wrapped the handle with para cord over a layer of compression bandage as the cord slipped all over the pipe, I assembled it together and added another greeblie to the back of the clamp, I then drilled out a hole for my on button, THEN I decided to pull it apart as the scratches and weathering wasn’t working for the overall look

I added to the main body and emitter end, 2 chrome knurled thumbscrews taken from a bathroom shaving mirror

image.jpgimage.jpg

I also added a brass brass ring from the previous seagull camera to the back of the clamp and a small injector nozzle

Thats it, sorry if I went on but I just wanted to show how much work went into my pride and joy

I need to add a coloured blade to this saber

suggestions please and I will get this photo shopped on when I take a pic of it in my hand

Congratulations! That is an awesome build! Very impressive that you made everything from scratch. I love the brass details and the samurai style handle cord. This saber has a very unique style; stylish yet powerful.

You had my vote!

Thank you
very much appreciated, especially from the winner, you also had my vote, I’m not sure if the cord design is a used design, I just played around with cord until I had what I felt looked best, I absolutely love my design, the more I hold it and look at it, it just gets better, as with yours and all the other builds they belong in a movie, I’ve already picked up more bits for another saber build

Very nice and original build Bengrim! I really like the additional detailing pictures and the design process you went through, thank you for sharing it!

Lovely saber there, I love the originality, and that it looks totally in universe, and cool all at the same time :)

And blade colour?
I think try green first.

Hey Bengrim09 ! I've been thinking it would look stellar with an orange blade.

Great build and log! I was thinking that Seagull Camera Ring was part of a sewing machine.

Looking forward to seeing your belt and holster!!!
working on some ideas for the belt and holster, how uncanny “orange blade” that was my initial thought as I wanted it different !! But I thought I was being crazy, I will try orange.
