Doctor Strange costume (Benedict Cumberbatch version) question

Is it just me or does it appear that the panels of the cape are cut along the bias? Just below the yellow marker there it looks like the (herringbone?) is at a diagonal. I could see this being easier to draft a pattern from and might lend a distinctive flow to the cape.

Can confirm suspected herringbone :)

Thanks for the complement! I wanted to give back to the community some how, I figured this would be a could opportunity.

Is it herringbone? It looks like it is going in one direction, like a Twill.

Is there a picture somewhere supporting this? Not that I don't believe you :D

--Download, fullscreen and stare at the attached image for 5minutes and tell me it doesn't look herringbone.

Damnit.. now I'm doubting it myself!
....Maybe it's just a twill or something... *sob*

I believe you are right! If that's not herringbone... I need to start wearing my glasses. ;)

It looks like they do use a Twill on part of the shoulder though.

I took the biggest image you shared, converted it into a PNG and enlarged it by 350%. You can see eeeeeeverything now. lol

3 and 4 look like embossed or acid etched velvet to me.

Just a side note, I made the ring more screen accurate.

Be sure to check "Print anyway" when you get it printed in metal. It likes to freak out over the "border" around the "rectangular" bits on the top of the ring.

https://www.shapeways.com/product/ECV8RC2NB/doctor-strange-ring-left

It fits Ring size 9, and MAYBE 9.5 (as it is slightly loose at #9

If you need the size adjusted to fit smaller or larger fingers, let me know and I will get another size on the page.

So I'm curious what thoughts are about the squiggly fabric? I did a cursory look online but didn't see anything I thought would really be good enough. Maybe draw on puff paint instead?

I feel like they may have printed that design on with rubber or screenprinted rubber, similarly to just about every other costume MARVEL puts out. Ant-Man's first suit has a square pattern that is printed, Spider-Man has bricks. Black Panther has at least 4 different printed designs.

I'll probably just use a red Puff Paint mixed with different Matte Angules Direct paints to color match it. Then attempt to "burn" the paint with a heat gun to make it more Matte.

The website looks a little shady, but it's legit. I use them whenever I run out. lol

Their colors are also VERY close to their swatch pallet.

I think it might be an example of channel corded fabric, wherein cording is sewn between two layers of fabric using a double needle

Cool idea!

I highly doubt they did that though because each strand looks like it is about 1/8th of an inch thick. That much piping would be insane to sew, and nearly impossible at 1/8th of an inch, simply because 2 layers of fabric + 1/8th inch piping cord would be much thicker than the "strings". Now, they do make 1/6th inch cord, but I have no idea how they would sew that all down to the "base".

For anyone who is attempting this cosplay with us, we wish you luck.
It is not easy and at times you will feel like giving up. The creators of this costume have gone to some pretty impressive lengths to make this difficult.
I am not much of a sewing person so this is driving me insane. I have less than a month until I have to be finished and fly out to LA.
I'm down to about the cloak and beginning to panic. This would be so much easier if I didn't work full time!

I don't think so, since your eye is the "closed version". Whereas, it seems that when the eye is open, it reveals (possibly) an Infinity Stone/Gem, which is greenish yellow from the promo pictures.

I have someone whose printing the pieces I need for this, but I'm having a hard time with the rings. I think I got the clasps, though. Are there files around for download, or are these shapeway files the only ones that have been made?

At the moment, it's only up on Shapeways. Shoot me a private message.

Do you have the belt done? and any pics of the tunic ?

I haven't had a chance to model it yet. And honestly, I don't know if I can. My 3d modeling skills are very, VERY limited. I'm using Adobe Illustrator to draw everything, 2d to 3d programs, Mesh Lab to delete excess nodes, and Blender to manipulate it all.

I will try to do it though!

Everybody stop sewing your cloaks. I may have stumbled onto something.
I am going to check it in the morning when it isn't after midnight.
Will post again in the morning to confirm my suspicions.. it looks very lopsided.
