TFA Graflex Research (That's a Graflex, right? Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Really? I don't think I see anything I could call a layer...

Yes, I do: the top edge shows it. But it's very accurate. I wonder how the grooves are done. Maybe it's laser engraved and laser cut.

Does this help you see them?

Well I'll be darned, there is a veneer over the clamp. Looks like it is a real Graflex. So, who's going to make these ?

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Hmm, i see the 2 layers - but not sure it´s a veneer. It´s as likely that it´s a oversized clamp they made and had to do a inlay (think MPP clamp plastic part without rising outer edges) to make it fit.

We will only know after we´ve seen the transition to the clamping area. Up to then it´s only guesswork.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Th clamp is a replica for sure,...I think. I have a real one and a Roman one. There are at least three tells on the Roman one from a real one plus the Roman one, and I think any other replicas, match the metal a bit more than this one. I agree is't some kind of covering.

The Graflex is vintage for sure but I think that's been well established already.

Awesome to see it though. Never thought this saber would be seen in a sequel, or ever see a sequel for that matter.

There's definitely some kind of covering over that clamp. The seam is visible on the right side of that top-down image from Wired, too.

It's more likely this is just a display piece for Disneyland, with no screen lineage

I'm going to go right now with this, we still have the movie to be released and see what kind of differences are shown. But I agree on being a tape around the clamp.

the knurling on the glass eye is definitely different.

It looks like they just spun it in a lathe and peeled it off, revealing the brass underneath. All my glass eye bezels are nickel or chrome plated brass.

The white background photos are the shots used for the new Visual Dictionary, you can tell by the different color metal of the clamp.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

I'm adding this picture so we get a look at the rusted brass pins, they look of the later kind.

Oh wow, you're right. Why would they do that? It looks lousy.

That's because it's an epoxy. That's common.
