1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Quote -: We're also looking into building 1:1 scale and 1/6th scale kits of the chair. But we're not sure of the interest / demand
I know it’s not an int thread but Its all depending on the price and shipping to the uk but I would be up for a 1/6th chair and if it helps fund future builds I would hopefully be up for it

Hey B,

Cool! Thanks for the interest. We'll let you know if anything comes of it. :)

Hi Gang,

Just a quick image post of the head piece and nav chair :)

This weekend is going to be fun!

Stay tuned!

The headpiece and chair is a work of art! Did you say the cockpit is in Dallas now?

Hey T,

Thanks so much! She wanted to fight me every steps of the way! Still a little bit more to go on the head piece to include mounting it to my office chair but I am absolutely thrilled with how it turned out. :)

YUP! The cockpit is now in Dallas, TX under the very protective and competent hands of brothers Ken and Mitch Rogers and the rest of the team of Real Movie Toys! They are going finish up the main canopy / window and then add the exterior skin. I'll then pick up and begin adding all of our favorite screen accurate details. I'll be making a trip to TX next month to crack the whip and make sure my baby is ok! ;)

Are they going to be posting update pics too? :)

As far as producing future versions of the headpiece, have you thought about parting it out? The top and sides look like they could be vacuformed plastic that you could then rivet to sub-structure. The round parts could likewise be separate parts, and depending on the material, you could cast them in uniform shape, and then heat-bend them to conform to the headpiece's shape and rivet them as well. Just a thought.

Love the pics Sofa...and to think that it's going to be skinned and the windows are going to be on is fantastic news!!:cool

Hey J,

Thanks! I think I'll be both saddened and excited when it's actually done looks like an actually part of the MF!

The master at work! :)

That chair is looking fantastic. And the hydrospanners coming out real good. The amount of work and care you guys put into this is amazing.

Hi SB4,

Thanks so much! Just a few more things to do and one chair can be marked off as finished. Then I have 2 more head pieces to make. Its funny... I used to look at certain tasks and think "UGH... I have to do this over again (ie the Volvo Panels), but the project wouldn't be where it is today (unfinished) if we took the "good enough" approach. Whenever someone joins the team I try to instill that very sentiment. If we settle for "good enough" then we not only produce a poor product but we, in many ways, compromise ourselves. Sure it might take a little longer, but the results... :)

Hey LtW,

OH YES! One of the conditions for housing the cockpit in Dallas was they had to take LOTS of photos as they work. They might post a few vids as well but we should get lots of pics as the work ramps up.

I'm not sure how we're going to move forward on the next gen head pieces. I like the idea of using the vacuform table. Quick and easy. I've vacuformed pieces in the past (the old extension panel lids) but the detail just wasn't there. I'm sure there is better/thinner material we could have used. But thinner material might be prone to warping when adhering all the parts together. But... The guys from Real Movie Toys think rotocasting might work just as well.

I'm somewhat sold on the 3D printing - although Izzy might disagree! 270 hours to print the head piece might make anybody go mad! ;)

I think Iz is going to remodel the entire head piece and make those circular rings individual parts as well - less clean up to do with the final print. Unfortunately, there would be too much work involved trying to make a mold from the finished version I have now as ALL the holes would have to be sealed/closed up so. Resin finds its way into EVERY crack and crevice - which is exactly what you want. BUT, if you missed any holes, you could ruin the mold when pulling the part.

We'll figure it out! :)

SofaKing01 I just stopped by to find a smile, I didn't expect to laugh out loud but Klingons in the MF? :lol:thumbsup
This is the coolest SW thread in history!!

I got to meet and greet with our very own MastahBlastah who stopped by to say hello. We didn't get enough time to chat but it was so great to finally meet after all this time! Thank you for the continued support!

Thanks for the shoutout, SK! It was great meeting you as well, brief as it was. My tour of the cockpit/geek out session with you was well worth the drive. Looking forward to following this build into the future!

Hi Gang

It's that time! :) Work continues on the 1/4 Scale Cockpit. I made some forward progress on the overall build.

Nav Chairs finally saw some primer

Adhered the donuts to the interior sides of the panels - the idea is a 1/2" clear plastic tube will slide into the holes and attach at the end suspending the clear plastic tube inside the frame allowing us to simply slide a LED strip through the tube and back light the panels! Sounds good if it works...

The frame was a bit too thin so I laser cut these braces for the MDF joists to grab

Hey! Very cool!

On the sides of the rings, you have this slots cut at various points for the bracing between them. But why is there a slot cut on the bottom tab that inserts into the floor? I would think that'd make that part much weaker.

@SofaKing01 I just stopped by to find a smile, I didn't expect to laugh out loud but Klingons in the MF? :lol:thumbsup
This is the coolest SW thread in history!!

Hey BD!

Thanks so much! Glad I could make you smile... ;) Can you believe the cross pollination? Klingons in the MF? What next... a Enterprise Captain's Chair in the cockpit?

Hey MB,

It was great meeting you and putting a face with the screen name! Glad you had a good time. Again, sorry we couldn't geek out a little longer. Would have enjoyed chatting more.

Lots of updates coming!

Hey T,

YUP! The cockpit is now in Dallas, TX waiting for a new canopy and exterior skin! Ken & Mitch Rogers, two brothers, with Real Movie Toys and I have teamed up to get the cockpit finished up and back out to various conventions and events. Not sure when they're going to get started but images will slowly begin to come in.

Shoot me a PM and we'll discuss the idea of your popping in and checking out the cockpit. :)

Those chairs are simple stunning!

Thanks, B! Are you referring to the 1/4 scale?
