Stormtrooper Helmet Pepakura Build-1st timer

Hi all,
Long time visitor, first time poster (except the introduction thread). I recently started trying my hand at Pep building and probably started with a harder one than I should have. I waited until I had gotten far enough along to know I wouldn't quit at it before I posted, so I thought I'd share here.
The pep file I used was from Space Cowboy, thanks to him for providing it.

More pics coming... The main reason I'm posting is the hope that it will help someone else who attempts this build in the future. I know I learned a lot from Terra and other threads. I also may have questions in the future and I'd like to get my name on here. Any comments or suggestions welcome!

I have learned a lot just by diving in. Mostly, that it was more expensive than I thought when you don't have any of the supplies to start with! I'm loving it though. More pics to follow...

Here's where I am currently. Even though it doesn't look like it, it's getting very smooth with all the sanding. I still have some spots to fix and smooth out but I'll probably throw a coat of primer on it soon to find all the small holes and start with the spot putty.

Looking good! I tried to build this once and I was never happy with how it was turning out and it's a MASSIVE amount of work, which is fine, but I wouldn't recommend this pep build for someone new to paper craft. I chose the 300 helmet and then I did a JD helmet, still a lot of work, but not as intense as the Stormy helmet, both good starters to learn the ins and outs of paper craft.

The stormy helmet has so many different angels and curves, it's not easy to get it right, your's is coming along nicely, excellent photos!

Hi this looks very good thus far. I have this same pep file that I used for my helmet and others for the rest of the armor and yes I can agree on it that this is a LOT OF WORK and that it is NOT CHEAP especially if you are a noob at this like I was.

It's a labor of love though, and a sentimental one at that in my case (1977...watch movie with dad...dad dies...fan to the very end... in memory of...etc)

More expensive because you need certain tools and you waste a lot of materials when you learn.
Mine just needs fine detailing, paintwork and lenses and it will be done, but I'm very happy to see that I'm not the only one with a solid intention here.

We'll done so far. I'm following this thread.

The time it takes and money it takes to do this is better spent doing this than sitting in some bar or casino or so many other stupid things I could mention.
You will end up with a beautifully crafted work of art that has soul, has your heart in it and you'll end up with a whole set of skills that you can't learn any other way than to make things the hard way.
Everytime I walk into my workshop (or as my wife calls it "your half of the garage ") I can hear Rick Astley singing in my head.

I Chose a Stormtrooper for my first Pep, yes its a complicated shape & you'll be sanding & sanding but it all worth it in the end :) What materials are you using? resins, fillers etc.

:)

Thanks! Yes, materials. I used 110# paper for the pep build, then fiberglass resin inside and out (no cloth), then rondo'd the inside. Started with Bondo on the outside (I think I've had 4 layers or so so far), and in the middle I used Apoxie Sculpt for added detail. I just hit it with Primer today after more sanding and I dremeled out the "teardrops". Also started on the armor pep builds. Here's what I got so far.030.JPG028.JPG027.JPG026.JPG014.JPG089.JPG

Hey again, those look like Fierfeks' pep files aren't they?

Just check the sizing of the parts against your body, in my case I had to do some serious upsizing and wasted SOOOO much time folding and cutting and resin on parts I couldn't use in the end.

Noob mistakes I made.....

i also have some tricks for getting some of the shapes not present in the pep, like the gear-shape that makes up the "oll" design on the back plate.

Yes, they are Fierfeks files (thanks to him), ive been trying them as I go and the belt and bicep are the only ones that seem a bit small. I can wear them but may be more comfortable upsizing. What do you use for the oil cap? I have a new pic but cant upload it from my phone. Basically, i ordered new Apoxie Sculpt and it was the black kind which is super messy. It looks like a wreck but Im making it better I think! One step backward to go two forward right?...Right?!

Taped some printed out labels on to get a feel for what it would look like...then got messy with my new black Apoxie clay and made it look horrible. But once it's sanded and primed again, I think it will look better. Also added a fresh layer of bondo to the rooftop to try and get the roundness shape. Sanding tonight...

I saw that you are using Fierfeks files, but the files I downloaded from him are a lot different. Yours seems to have more detail, especially in the abs and cod area. Did you buy them from him or did I download the wrong ones? Kinda confused. I'm hoping to start this build after I finish my first order stormtrooper, and I want the most accurate files as possible, so if anybody knows which ones are best let me know
