I'm back and I have made quite a bit of progress since my last post. Got the dome made and it doesn't line up perfectly with the eyes but overall I am satisfied with the results. Right now I'm at the fill, sand, prime and repeat phase. Still not sure how I am going to mount the dome but it will probably involve velcro, I just taped some foam inside to take the pictures and hold it in place.

The right hand side of the dome is flaring out way to much and that was the very first thing I locked onto when I was your pics.

Your WIP sculpt looks way better. What Happened?

I can see what you're talking about. Not sure why I messed that up. Think I can knock it down a little bit to make it less obvious. Thanks for the feedback!

Switched gears and got started on the tusks. I spun some aluminum rod on the drill press and shaped it with some files and lots of tapping fluid. Used a small triangle file to make the ridges. Slow process but one down and one to go. Time to break out the calipers for the second one!

A few years and a few coats of paint later and I'm going to call this done. Is it perfect? Far from it but I did however exceed my own expectations from when I started this project. It was quite an undertaking for a first sculpting project but I am pleased with the results. The dome is just held on with a few pieces of velcro to leave room for adjustment. Since I still have some materials leftover I am toying with the idea of making the rest of the armor pieces and eventually turning it into a life sized display.....unless someone stops me. Big thanks to everyone who gave me feedback and critique, could not have done it without you and to anyone who has shared their painstaking research on various places across the internet.....I don't want to stop at the helmet so stay tuned.

This is nuts!
Your first sculpt?

This is beautiful.
You should be so damn proud of yourself.
If you were standing next to me right now, I'd be patting you on the back.
Hats off to you friend.
Robert

Thanks for inspiring me to work on my rubies vader helmet. I know it won’t be the exact same type of work but still. This is amazing! I remember seeing this before and now that I see it complete really just blows my mind.
