Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Post-release)

I wonder, how does Peter know so much about every artists on his tapes, particularly Vol 2, considering he didnt have that one as a child? For that matter, how would he even know what the artists names are? I doubt he knew EVERY artist at the time he left Earth.
I thought about that, too.

Here's my explanation. He grew up in the 80's and yet a lot of the songs are from the 60's and 70's. I'd like to think it's just that he has a hip mom who wanted to get him into the music that she loved growing up. It's not hard to imagine that she also taught him a lot about the artists. She's certainly knowledgeable - after all, she knew the words to every song on the radio.

I was going to say the same thing. he was tight with his mom, and his mom made him tapes. A mom who knows every song on the radio could reasonably have a kid who knew the songs as well... he obviously was big into pop culture.

Between his death here and on the walking dead, rooker has had some really great sendoffs!

Yeah man, his death on the walking dead was rad, but norman reedus added to that. In this movie however, Rookers performance was rock solid. It also helped he had some writing to back up his kick ass acting. Damn it. Such a great movie. Its funny when going over Gunn's resume, how he didnt really hit his stride until this movies. For quality filmmaking that is. I watched Super, it was meh, slither was meh, but man. These two movies. So damn good.

I noticed some of Yondu's funeral wrappings featured US military insignia and medals.

Captain's rank bars (USAF probably) near his left temple. For his rank.
'National Defense Service Medal' full ribbon near his right temple. For his defense of Xandar.
'Good Conduct' ribbon bar on the cloth over his eyes. For his redemption.

At least, that's why I think they chose those specific items.

Hea

He also got the tapes in a case. WE never see the case really as it's right to the cassette, but the cassette insert could very well have the title, year, artist, and album written in it for each song. Plus, single parent, one kid. She probably talked the songs/artists up a lot as he was growing up. Something they could easily talk about.

Yup, military medals/ribbons

I was wondering about that. They looked like insignia but I wasn't sure if they actually meant anything or if they were purely decorative.

I couldn't stand him in the first season. He was so poorly written.

But when he came back they gave him some real depth.

Yes, insignia, ribbons, and ribbon bars. And I think whoever chose them took care to pick the ones that match Yondu's actions. I'm sure there will be more to see if a screenshot can be grabbed somehow.

I am now trying to remember the cloth colors. I might have to have a set of funeral wraps in a display.

This was on IMDB

Death decorations are US military symbols:
  • a U.S. Air Force Missileers pin.
  • a U.S. Army Ribbon for Good Conduct.
  • a USAF Missile Maintenance badge, affectionately known as a "Pocket Rocket". It is worn exclusively on the pocket of Air Force Weapons Specialists who have worked with guided missiles, and guided missile systems.

Those missile pins would be in addition to what I saw and listed on the prior page. National Defense, Captains rank, and Good Conduct which I also spotted.

I will admit I am a little tentative on the National Defense ribbon, but only a little. We'll see when the movie comes out on disc.

Also, the missileers pin and missile maintenance badge might be two names for the same thing.

I enjoyed it for sure, but not as much as the first one. As I figured I would, I got kind of tired of baby Groot. I more preferred "teenager Groot" in the credits. "Cute" is good with me for about a minute and then it wears off. That being said though, I would love to have a baby Groot doll! LOL

Some of the humor I liked, some of it seemed to get a little old. I think what I loved so much about the first one was that I wasn't expecting that level of humor and, to me, that made it more funny. However "I'm Mary Poppins y'all!" cracked me up!!

Still, a great movie and a great addition to the MCU.

Yeah same with Laspector here. I found the intro a tad too long, it kinda gets tiring after a few minutes. Don't get me wrong I love baby groot x)

Also I thought the 1st one had a better pace with humour, it didn't seem constant like in the 2nd one. Sometimes it gets a little bit tiresome. However there are a lot of good lines that could be mentioned there x)

Either way, I can't wait for the next one!

Came across this interesting bit on wiki.

Fantastic Four 234-235

Previously, Galactus had attached an engine to Ego to cause him to constantly move involuntarily. This prevented Ego from attacking anyone. After some time Ego then take control of the engine and comes to Earth and attacks.

At some point during these battles. The Thing takes a power cell from the engine and attempts to throw it into Ego's brain. Ego ends up spinning off course and gets burnt up by the Sun.

Of course I was instantly reminded of how Ego is dealt with in the movie.

In the comics, Ego eventually regenerates himself from remnants. And some have been talking about his return in future Marvel films. Citing this quote from an interview.

Two iconic tough-guy actors join the latest Guardians movie, with Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone both starring in pivotal roles. But is this a one-off appearance for the two of them, or will their stories continue in other MCU movies?

Gunn:
This is definitely not a one-off [for them]. They’re both characters that we’ve taken a lot of time to develop, and they’re a big part of the MCU now.

Are we gonna see Ego again?

Just got home from viewing 2, I think it's actually better the second time around. Some things I noticed:

1) The two "too long" scenes that specifically get brought up, the intro/battle with Groot dancing, and the Rocket/Yondu escape, on second viewing, and keeping in mind comments, feel like the action is there to provide showcase to the song, hence why the scenes go the full length of the songs.

2) Mantis' use of the word "progeny" that Ego was searching for. Child/children would be obvious plural or singular, but progeny can be either.

3) Ego's "look of pride" when Peter was able to manifest his powers is much more sinister when you know what's going on.

4) There was a scene, I think fairly early (pre-Ego's planet, IIRC), where there was some dialogue that seems like it's a reference/shout-out/Easter Egg to something. I caught it the first time, and it stood out to me, but I dismissed it. I caught it the second time, and it stood out again, and then I remembered that both GotG and whatever the reference was to are both owned by Disney. I just can't remember what it was or who the conversation was about! I want to say it was Peter, and possibly Drax or Rocket. And they were on a ship at the time.

Oh, and as for the question about ID'ing songs/singers... From Amazon's listing for the Vol. 2 Cassette:

So, yup, case has the listing.
