So just wanted to get some opinions, because I will soon be repainting a Jurassic Park Cinemacast model that I won on ebay for about 10 USD because it arrived in pieces....

Here is the before....

I already have a Horizon Raptor painted to JP colors.

I'm thinking a TLW raptor or one of the Raptor Squad. Need opinions......

WOW... you're the guy who painted that kit? I've had those pictures saved for years. Really cool piece. The different Raptors in the first movie had slightly different color variations and with the reference material available now of the screen used animatronic raptors you can pick and choose which one you want to do, as they are differently colored than your Horizon kit.

Started work on this guy last night, here are some WIP shots......

The Color is very washed out, I'll have to take pics in natural sunlight, because it is very bright orange. Question for all of the modelers, is there any kind of secret formula for washes? I've had some success in the past, but some major failures. Can anyone give me some guidance as to what I should do? How many parts paint to water? Anything at all will help. I'm thinking a brown wash will work best, but I don't want to lose the white of the underbelly, I just want the brown to fill in the grooves.

For washes you take the color you have and darken it a little, then start the first wash with that, then darken the color again and do another wash. Don't go even or apply over the whole model, but do sections and leave others without... then overlap with further washes. Do the same with the stripes. And the same with the underbelly. Let the underbelly wash go up onto the orange parts and let the orange area washes bleed down into the underbelly area to create a soft blend between the two. Of course... this is only what I've heard of what better painters than I do... when I try to do it I always end up too impatient and screw things up.

I appreciate the help, I've always been ok with blending with the airbrush, but the washes are what kill me every time. Here an update to show what i'm starting to do, it will take forever to do the whole model, haha. Plus in these photos you get a better sense of the orange color.

I just threw some yellow on the eye for contrast

These dots will be the death of me

I wish i could, I'm too afraid to dremmel it out, its cast in polystone, so its solid all the way through. I've had some success with painting eyes, if it turns out anything like my Horizon raptor a few post above, I'll be happy.

Do you have any photoshop skills? If so you might try creating a eye decal. Find a photo of a real lizard eye / or other animal.

I've done it with 1/2 size human busts sculps, Much better looking than paint.

Just a suggestion.

Way cool model by the way!

Just penciled in the eye, trying to map out the thickness of the eye slit before I apply paint.

Looking cool. If I could make one suggestion then you should do a raggedy pattern of the orange top color, as the dividing line seems too straight. It should be bleeding into the lighter undercoat more.

Sorry... not the best pic. Never saved that many JP2 pictures.

And here's a shot of a JP2 eye.
