1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hey MB,

WOW! The dry transfers look awesome but again, it goes back to having the ability to print "white". If I can print a vibrant "white" onto a clear decal, that would essentially solve all the issues. I might have to buy an white ink/toner specific printer

SK ... If I'm not mistaken about the dry transfer decals (or at least the ones I'm thinking about) they aren't printed at all, but cut from vinyl with adhesive backing, so whites wouldn't be an issue. Also, no need for clear paper, as once these decals are transferred, there would only be material where the pinstripes are ... Not where just the black or white negative space is. Think about the big transfer decals people put on their back windshields, where you peel away a strip, leaving only decal where the graphic is. Make sense? Not sure if there is a service that could make these custom and small, or if perhaps you couldn't somehow cut them with the laser cutter?

OH OH OH OH!!! That makes total sense and MIGHT just be the way go! My ONLY concern is getting the decal to be perfectly aligned. But I LIKE IT!

I'm pretty sure that's not what's called dry transfers. Dry transfers are printed in an ink with a pressure sensitive adhesive that is stickier than the transfer paper. You lay it on a surface and rub or burnish the text or artwork down and then peel away the transfer paper leaving the artwork on the surface.

Thanks for clarifying, Lt! I guess these are just called "transfer stickers" or "transfer decals" and there seem to be services that will cut them from vinyl. Seems like you can get them pretty small as well.

You could incorporate a thin-stroked outline of the panel around each respective pinstripe graphic, that way you could print multiple panels on a bigger sheet, cut them out and still have a good guide for placement. Also, it looks like there are services that will print multiple colors in the same graphic.

Maybe a service similar to one of these?

Hey MB,

I'm still struggling with my "NEW" printer and its unwillingness to print something decent! I printed two new armrest decals and both have breaks in the prints showing thin white lines. UGH...

Hi Gang,

The End of the Weekend Update is here! GREAT NEWS! Although the new laser cutter power supply isn't here yet, the laser does in fact work at 75% power. And its cutting through acrylic like butter.

It was HOT! With Summer finally coming to an end... the heat and humidity didn't get the memo! ;)

Finally got the rest of the cockpit entrance door pads finished up and shipped to Dallas!

I'm headed to Dallas, TX this Thursday for the Forth Worth, TX Galactic Swag Expo this weekend!
https://www.galacticswagexpo.com/

I hope to see many of you there! And not to worry... Lots of pics from the show will be coming!

Stay Tuned!

Wow, the amount of work you're churning Sofa is insane:eek Love it!!!!!!!!!!! And enjoy yourself at the Expo; looking forward to pics:)

Great updates! Really looking forward to seeing the canopy done as well as it being skinned! I took a lot at the promo page for that con you're going to... seems there's going to be both a Rey and a Leia attending. You should set up a photo-shoot. Surely there will also be an R2 unit or ten there as well. By the way, I know you started an R2 a long time ago, is that in your pipeline for working on any time soon?

Hey J,

Thanks so much! Luckily, MOST of the files have already been completed for the full scale and it's been a simple matter of scaling down and laser cutting. There were a few files I said "Oh Yeah... I forgot I had those!" Naturally, I have to make few mod's, here and there, to some of the files but the 1/4 scale has been so much fun! Even better, the new power supply and lenses arrived so we'll be up and running when I get back from TX.

Speaking of which, I head out for TX this evening and I am REALLY excited to meet up with Ken and Mitch. Then I get to stand in front of the cockpit with my arms crossed, eyeing their changes and nodding with approval of their efforts. lol ;)

Hey LtW,

I am excited too! As nervous as I was handing the cockpit off to someone else, I was really dreading working on the canopy. Ken and Mitch jumped right in and started knocking it out! Their efforts have given me a much needed break but I miss her so much!

The Rey that is attending the Con is a personal friend of Ken & Mitch so we'll DEF get some images of Rey. I hope we can get Leia as well. The last show we did, most, if not all, of the cosplayers wanted to get images in the cockpit. We'll DEF get some good photos of the event.

I'm hoping there will be some R2s so they can take advantage of droid socket / terminal I created.

My R2 is sitting in the garage right now. I look at it EVERYDAY with the idea that I will eventually get to it. I'm not sure whether I will do a static or functional R2 - who am I kidding... it'll be fully functional! lol When will I get to it? I have no idea. Once the 1/4 scale cockpit is finished, I'm planning on turning my attention to the 1/6th scale cockpit - file conversion has already started. As you may know, Izzy and I are working very closely together and working on creating a kit of both scales. We're at the 75% point as we're both making mod's and changes to the files for easy assembly.

Hope all that made sense?

- - - Updated - - -

Cannot wait to see that canopy done and done...if you catch my drift;)

I do! I really really do! :)

- - - Updated - - -

Can't wait to finally see this! I'll be there with my R2 (and maybe one of my floating training remotes) and would LOVE to get some photos!

Hey TT,

AWESOME! I'm really looking forward to meeting and greeting! We'll DEF geek out and have fun! Maybe I can trick... I mean persuade you to finish my R2? ;)

See you in a few days!

Just wanted to say I am so excited to get to see this in person this weekend. We will be there with the 501st and Rebel Legion on Saturday. Hopefully we have some fun photo ideas :).
