Nice-N Slave 1 Build

This is a bucket list project for me, and I am by no means a Slave 1 expert. So this is going to be a huge learning experience with a steep learning curve. There is very little info about how this thing goes together out there. So one of my goals is to provide some documentation on how it's built. I know there are others out there in the same boat as me with this kit. Hoping the experts will chime in with some advice and tell me what I'm doing wrong so I can fix it. Mike Salzo has already been a huge help with this.

First impressions. It's freaking huge and heavy!

Here are almost all the parts laid out together.

Go Mike! I'm looking forward to seeing this come together, seeing how I have one too. Thanks for making this a build log.

One of the first things, besides what goes where, that sticks out to me is how it'll be supported. It seems that getting someone to weld the support base is essential. And also, deciding how to show it in different positions.

Everything centers around the mount in back too.

Here are the 2 options I'm toying around with. The imbeded mount is 1/2"-20 thread. The safest option would probably do what John Simmons did and weld a coupler to a metal sheet.

I'm toying with this idea, but I can't find it in 1/2-20 only 1/2-13

For the mount on the ones I have built I telescope the 1/2 20 rod into a larger black pipe. Using set screw (1/4 20) in the larger pipe to clamp down on the smaller pipe. I used like 6 inches of the 1/2 20 into a 3/4 sleeve, then into the black gas pipe that has an approximate 3/4 ID.

How much is the kit and can it be ordered? I've seen a couple of builds of this kit, but I cant find out how they are actually acquired..

cheers

Is this the same kit that is used in the Disney Launch Bay displays?

The one there was really impressive. I was never really drawn to Studio Scale before mainly due to cost and display space, but seeing it up close with all that amazing detail made me seriously start considering something in Studio Scale. The older I get, the more I have problems with seeing close up and those small 1/72 kits are getting harder to appreciate without glasses :lol

It's a Neisen kit. You would have to contact him.

The wings are insane! They are a total testament that they were just slapping parts together, literally just covering the internal cross bar.

I really want one of these.........can you share approximate cost?
I'm not sure what the forum policy is regarding sharing that info or else I would share. You are probably better off contacting Steve or Mike for specifics.
