Haven't heard anyone mention this, but I wonder if Luke's green saber is in Artoo? It's pretty conspicuous that it hasn't even been addressed, but could be a surprise reveal in IX.

Well he`s just been a glorified USB stick in the last two movies so that would actually be very cool. We have seen it before so I doubt Disney would miss an opportunity to rehash the past...again.

I've been considering another illogical plot point. Ignoring the fact the resistance were looking for Luke, to bring him back to the fight but then sent Rey (complete stranger) to find him cos she's got the force and needs training. Why did Artoo not carry a holographic message from General Leia?
Just because the audience hasn't seen these characters in over thirty years, it's reasonable to surmise they have lived their lives together and as such the 'help me Obi Wan Kenobi' message is just a nostalgic call back that tugs at the heartstrings of the audience because of Carrie's passing but doesn't ring true in the context of the story.

Oh, and who had the time to repair Finn's/Poe's jacket when an immediate evacuation of D'qar was happening? and and how does Rey still have the blaster Han gave her before she was taken by Ren in TFA? Cos she needed the blaster from TK007 when she escaped.

I like that idea.

For that matter, R2 & 3PO have mostly been on the back-burner for TFA & TLJ. No complaints from me, they had their time in the spotlight and now we have BB8 sorta filling both roles. BB8 if anything was a little overused as a mcGuffin in TLJ with the AT-AT bit.

I wonder if they will give R2 & 3PO a proper send-off in Ep IX?

R2 morereso has a special place in my heart :)

I know it'll trigger a riot, but I think the 'SAGA' will be over when R2 & 3PO are destroyed.. Not sure if Disney would go that far, but with everyone complaining about the treatment of the classic three, that'd hit everyone out of nowhere. I'd like that as a twist.

Well, obviously Yoda.
Slightly related note - FINALLY got a chance to see it yesterday and...can I just say how cool it was to see the puppet again? It felt like something was off on the sculpt in the first couple of shots in that sequence, but apparently it's pulled from the original molds. Is that credible after almost 40 years?

To declare that some of the plot threads you mentioned are now closed off because THIS movie didn't explore them is pretty narrow thinking.

Please explain how these plot threads are to be explored in a future installment without retconning/jumping the shark. Apart from the knights of Ren and the Skywalker saber there wasn’t any important plotpoint that wasn’t addressed and to a degree tied up in TLJ. And frankly I don’t think either of those two would have a major impact unless they come up with something really spectacular.

@Rotwang ,

Some really interesting points . Well laid out and easy to read observations .... but what did you think of the movie ? ;)

It struck me as a movie that could have used one or more rounds of extra revisions and some ideas should have been run by a nine-year old to see if they make sense. I would otherwise describe it as interesting and unexpected, but also disjointed and while I understand what they tried to achieve, I feel that Luke deserves better, they didn't try to change the character, but gave him a really downbeat arc to justify the rise of yet another round of light vs dark. It's a very long film that feels too short for the amount of story it tried to tell and too short for what they didn't tell.

I do hope that once they finish #9, they decide to shift the focus on something other than the eternal struggle between the extremes of the Force. What is a nice idea for a few movies is now a storytelling millstone around the neck.

That would be quite funny actually. Although we still have Lando alive out there somewhere.

Is it ever stated anywhere how many billions the First Order killed when they blew up the Hosnian System?

(I think it's 5 planets: Cardota, Courtsilius, Hosnian, Hosnian Prime and Raysho?)

Finally saw it. E

It was good, it was bleh.

Spoilers.......

The "comedy" was really out of place, especially in the beginning when Poe contacts Hux. It turned the scene into a parody. My 22 year old, who was raised on SW and loved TFA said he wasn't impressed. There was to much going on. So many "all is lost" moments that he ended up bored and not caring for the rebels like he should. I agree.

We also weren't introduced to anything new. No one advanced as a character. Finn was the same Finn. Poe was the same Poe, (except being obnoxious) and we didn't learn anything more about Rey outside the expected. Then there was Snoke. He wasn't around long enough to even warrant being in the movies. He served no purpose whatsoever. Rose. Horrible casting. Reminded me of a fanfilm character. I'm glad Phasma is gone. She reminded me of a Cylon from the original BSG.

Leia's blown into space moment was ridiculous.

Something else is bothering me...I feel more of our Galaxy is mixing with the SW Galaxy. Can't quite put my finger on it. The casino sequence looked like a futuristic Earth.

Maybe I'm just getting old and cynical but I left the theater not caring about any of the characters or wondering about the next movie and where it's going and who lives or dies.

I keep saying, they will introduce Earth as a known location within the Star Wars universe. There's just too much franchise mixing opportunities, too many theme park opportunities, too much money to pass up.

Oh yeah, I've been thinking the same damn thing.
At some point they will make some horrible connection. LOL

Personally, i did enjoy the movie, it was entertaining, but the same thing has been done to it, as has been done to star trek. It has been dumbed down for a new audience. A lot of the 'that is not possible in this universe' have been ignored in order to advance the plot in both franchises. Beaming into a star ship at warp/ to another planet? a star ship under water/ in the atmosphere? Force projecting? People have said that the complaining fanboys are just grumpy old men, but to go against the established lore of a universe is to change it into something different. How about if we update the marvel universe so that tony stark had mind powers and could fly without the suit?

I would hope the opening premise of Star Wars precludes any possible connection between our galaxy and one far far away, yet there is already a vague connection, E.T. visited earth in the eighties. His species appear in the senate in TPM.

I have an "out there" Leia theory. What if knowing the rebels would never let her sacrifice herself, she force swapped bodies with Holdo. Them talking at the same time was the start of it. Holdo keeps up the pretense, although I've changed my hair would take on a double meaning. In episode 9 two things could happen, either Holdo who looks like Leia dies or runs away and we never see her again, or Leia who looks like Laura Dern now returns, after Mary Popping away from another exploding spaceship.

This is one of the best observations about TLJ that I came across whilst having a long break from all this, so much so I think it borders on being a totally genius bit of lateral thinking (but apologies if its been posted in the last twenty odd pages since before Xmas .........)
And I quote :
"Bearing in mind that Rey has apparently spent her entire life on a desert planet and barely a day and a night on Lukes island, just who the hell taught her to swim?"

(I guess the fun answer would be Obi "swams" ghost !)
